Those CCDN state soft nose lead rounds only. I don't typically keep those on hand, nice size plate but not sure how you'd see your miss on a white background.

I ordered 9 of these instead https://www.cdnnsports.com/steel-target-with-bracket-8-round-9mm-to-30-06.html... shipping was $4.99 total for 2nd day fedex, and they come painted with a nice thick powder coat and come with a mounting bracket for less than $20. they are AR550 rated all the way to 30.06. I mount 3 of them side by side on a 4', 5/8" diameter galvanized grounding rod. The downward 20 degree angle that the included mounting bracket creates is nice.

Good find! Any idea how to hang them from a 2x4?

WooHoo2You You normally fasten on the included bracket on yourself. But for 2x4 attachment you can elect to not install the bracket and put a hook like this https://www.cdnnsports.com/2x4-spike-and-hanger-target-mounts-white-podercoat.html... through one of the bolt holes in the target. The hook in the kit does fit through the bolt hole, I know because bought one kit to test that idea out. It hangs perpendicular to the shooter that way, but of course it points to 5 O'clock or 7 O'clock laterally depending on which hole you use. I think the 2x4 kit is a great deal too, but I haven't accidentally shot the hanger and I don't know what kind of steel it's made of. I am guessing that hanger is AR500 because do all outdoors is a big established company and I doubt they'd risk selling anything made of soft steel with a flat surface facing the shooter. You can also use chain and S hooks through both bolt holes to hang it like a traditional gong for a nice loud long ringing sound.

I go to my machine shop at work take scrap metal for free, make stand for a few dollars and hand it on 600 yards. My 16 inch WW HBAR AR15 with 1 in 9 twist keeps dinging 10 inch discs at 600 yards with 77gr 5.56 IMI ammo. Last weekend 40 times in a row and then I decided it was boring.
I wanted to try some of this "professionally made" targets but shipping is horrendous. It is 25% of the price you pay for a target. They can keep it. I will keep making my own.

1) You decided shooting at 600 yards was "boring" after you hit 40 out of 40 hits with an AR? I call bullshit. At that range 5.56's bullet drop is measured in FEET. Let's not even bring up wind, 1 MOA at that distance is 6" (on your 10 inch target), or the innate accuracy of your rifle. Possible, yes. Likely, hell fucking no.
2) Why would you "keep" making your own targets? Are your targets that shitty they can't take a 5.56 at 600 yards?
3) You just realized that shipping really heavy stuff is cost prohibitive?

I am glad there are good companies around but aren't the mounts a little bit pricey? $150 just for the two metal pieces and some mounting hardware.

Sounds like you are referring to our Solo Target stand, these are made from 1/4" AR500 steel that is several times more expensive than regular steel. This will allow for a lifetime of use being able to handle direct hits from rile and pistol rounds.

I've got an old aluminum w/steel engine block I have been using lol. It's over my pond against an embankment and I have to tell you I can see rounds explode and pepper the water in front of it with ricochet. Of course I shoot from the top of a hill at quite a long distance so there is no danger but it really puts into perspective the the fact that you definitively want to know what you are shooting and how far back you should be from hard targets. Do these ricochet or does the chain just knock them down? I know you are supposed to shoot from 100 yards I'm just curious as to what happens to the bullet.

The plates are hanging by chains and swing when hit. I paint the plates white so you can see where you hit. And you can see where the metal from the bullets go when they break apart. Black streaks on the white paint. There's a safer way if you use old tires.

To add to this; hang them with a 15% angle to the side of your range; then the splatter will ricochet to the side... and on the real huge rectangle, use a 3rd hole to have a pull-back chain, which also gives a 15% down angle, so splatter shoots into the dirt.

By the way, watch a bunch of Hichcock .45 youtube vids; he has a great gong range, where all sorts of gongs/plates are set up on his property, shooting over a small gully zone. Nice "Gong" sounds when he hits all the shots.

PS: also use white or day-glo orange paint on your targets, and before you start to shoot, walk your range for issues, and hit each one with a fresh coat of paint. Great fun; shoot safe, Practice makes perfect! Regards MSG Swampie

I bought 2 plates,12"& 8" to go with my 10" plate I already had. I hung them in a steel door frame. 12" at the bottom 10" middle and 8" on the top. Works great for sighting in my rifles. They have held up great. Bought 2 plates to get free shipping and received them fast. Can't ask for more.

Several months ago, I ordered two gongs from Scorpius Tactical. They were lost in shipping. Scorpius didn't hesitate to send me two new gongs - at their expense. I've got several steel targets at 50-400yds and I can tell you - without a doubt and without hesitation that, not only is their customer service top-notch - that their products hold up to repeated abuse.

Say what you want about steel targets, but, I'm a Scorpius Tactical customer and will continue to be one because of their customer service and unparalleled product quality.

I, also, want to mention that, while I've lurked for months (years?), I didn't bother registering to post until, today - in support of a company that I feel is worth defending and commending. If you need personal references, I'm sure SG.com has a way to PM me ...

True, but can't trust those shady guys on fleeBay, I bought a target on there and got mild steel. found out that happens more often than not...no thanks.

All of our steel is certified AR500 with a brinell hardness between 500-535 or so. Should last a life time if cared for.

Good to know. I ordered one for $25 shipped, and he had the a photocopy of the materials datasheet. Do you know which seller you purchased from? If so I will make sure to avoid.
