I've ordered these from this very same seller on Amazon.com and I can assure you they DO NOT charge $5 a box for shipping. This item ships for FREE to any state in CONUS. In fact I placed a mock order for 30 just as you did and the shipping and tax were free.
Also, when I placed a real order several weeks back, I ordered just a few packs, the cost was below the normal $25 Amazon requirement for free shipping, and the item still shipped for free....
Maybe if you live outside the USA they may charge shipping.
As far as the product itself goes, these are decent but not the best I've seen. The ones I recieved from this seller had an extra heavy layer of varnish that could foul the striking pad., but they give you several striking pads.
If memory serves they are made in Pakistan or India. Still a good product, perfect for my hurricane survival kit.
