The Traditions Blunderbuss Flintlock Muzzleloading Rifle 54 Caliber 16" Blued Barrel Wood Stock brings back a small slice of history. Commonly considered to be a predecessor of the modern shotgun, the Blunderbuss rifle is characterized by a short, large caliber barrel which is commonly flared at the muzzle. The flared muzzle helped to aid in the loading of shot or other projectiles, to increase the spread of the shot, and to also make it easier to reload since this was often done on horseback or while moving. While a better option for short range accuracy, the Blunderbuss was used during the American Civil War era and carried on the Lewis & Clark Expedition.
