The Firearm Blog has more information about the next generation of assault rifles from the Izhevsk Machinebuilding Plant (Izhmash), Russia. "Izhmash has officially unveiled the first working prototype of the AK-12 Assault Rifle. According to Max Popenker there will be two models, a Light model (5.45x39mm, 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm) that accepts all magazines that work with existing AK rifles, as well as a new 60 round quad stack magazine, and a Heavy (7.62x51mm) model that will use a new magazine."

Nice that they moved the rear sight system back so far; so now you get a good long sight radius... and added all those inches of rail; time for lights/ lasers/ grips/ optics, etc... biggest issue with -47/-74 was the top cover, and how flimsy it was/ not a good sight/optic mount... and therefore the rear sight was so far forward (like a Mauser K98...). Fun stuff!

Is this another variant of the AK 47? It certainly looks good. The performance should justify the way it looks. - KSA Kosher
