Wall Street Journal has an article about the future service weapons for the US Army. M16 and M4 have been in service for almost 50 years and US Army is looking for a replacement. Reasons quoted were relatively short range, lethality of the round and raising number of complaints about jamming and overheating M4s. Some of the successors mentioned were Heckler & Koch HK416, FN Herstal Mk16 Special Operations Combat Assault Rifle and Heckler & Koch XM8.
