On an unrelated note. I spent a lot of time with the m-14 , it never let me down. I hate to disagree with an earlier post , but I work with a b4 that uses a m-14. 3rd tour... Not outdated to him or the HVT's.

Thanks for your service. My points earlier was mainly that Springfield is ripping Americans off with this price. I understand it's extremely good quality, but it's just not worth $1670, let alone $1950.

Love the jeep. Hate the stupidity of people saying this gun should be priced at this point. For what it is, $800 max...hasn't Springfield made enough money pedaling this gun when it was actually relevant?

Can we ask the mods to ban that VEPR lickin' rinehart13 guy? Quote " Less money, and even better quality". The Russians also built all those "quality" rooms in Sochi. Go ahead and defend that you twit. Better yet, just move there. You are right about one thing, you're not a troll. You're an idiot. Go spread your wisdom on an AK forum. I'm sure they would love to have you.

Hahaha. Way to be a crybaby. I never said the Russians were good architects. When it comes to weapon designing, they are on top of their game. You feed into Springfield and you pay outrageous amounts for $100 worth of material. You're the idiots that they love. Have fun with that.

You can always spot the Millennial. Spouting a bunch of bullshit about things they've never fired, much less owned. Get their knowledge from Google, Youtube, and whatever video game they spend all day playing. They use hashtags because they don't want anyone to miss their comments.

Hashtags are the Internet's way of identifying Millennial dipshits.

I'm going to have to agree with you Birch. So weird his hatred for wood in one line, and his defending how great an option it is in a VEPR on the next. I can't recall, who adopted the VEPR has their standard combat rifle (the .308 vepr he is talking about, not the real Ukranian designed VEPR). All he does is insult and shout, but can't muster any real support for whatever he is attempting to argue

Isn't spouting bullshit exactly what you are doing? #dumbbass #iguessitworkedbecauseyouresponded
And I only use octothorpes (google that jackass) so morons like you would understand. You know, arguing at your level of comprehension. Sorry, not a millennial, just someone a bit smarter than you, who knows when they are being ripped off by an american company, for a product that has been far removed from any modern military. #boomroasted

I'm a little surprised to find so many negative comments here. This is a difficult to manufacture rifle based on a combat proven design, being built in the United states out of only the most premium of materials. That sounds like $1667 to me. If you don't like it, great. I like the VEPRs, I like the M1A. They are both great. Your not just paying for accuracy, its a slew of features, familiarity, etc. that cause so many to purchase this more expensive rifle. Anybody that trained on this rifle in the past knows Sam paid out the butt to ensure you knew what you were doing with it, that sort of familiarity doesn't come easy for the armchair commanders and trolls, and it isn't cheap either. This wasn't MY combat rifle, but it is a fantastic rifle I would bet my life on.

I challenge anybody stating this is a $100 rifle to make one for 10x that cost. If this is a $100 rifle your VEPRs are $30 rifles, manufactured on a weaker currency due to exchange rates, with additional deflationary impacts, and the significantly lower pay scale... maybe a $7 rifle in your imagination land. Manufacture a VEPR or a M1A for your $100. Manufacture a single barrel for that price... Lets get realistic, this is a premium rifle, it commands a premium price because everyone else is willing to pay it. Its history alone is commanding a lot of the price, but you could say the same with any other rifle design that saw combat and created causalities (IE a stamped rifle that takes no skill and limited equipment to manufacture in seconds that's so popular).

Lets hope we never have to rely on our neighbors in a revolution, because we can't even be civil on a website to each other. Shame!

A premium rifle in 1955 maybe... no one uses this wood stock garbage for anything but plinking... for $1700 sa could kiss my ass. #defendingdatedweopans #likesgettingrippedoff #lovesoverpricedfamiliariloveusagunmakersblindly

Don't be ignorant. The AK47 was designed in 1946. The M14 was designed in 1954. AR15 was designed in 1957. The M1A was designed in 1974, based off of the M14.

What major combat rifle are you looking at that's so modern and amazing? If you can answer the question we could have intelligent back and forth banter, or even keep it as ignorant as you desire. If it's a PSL, VEPR, etc its based off a much older design. Regardless of your choice of firearm, I don't see the problem with somebody owning a quality firearm so that they can defend themselves and their rights. I'm sorry you can't afford this rifle, I really wish they were $100.

What rifle are you Philliytut currently using for something other than plinking? Who are you fighting right now? Tell us your war stories! Tell us your accolades! Let's see your medals! *cue NSA*

I wish I could help you out. Knowledge is power, most people here are willing to share it for free if you approach them as human beings. Most people here know what they are talking about, disagreements are normal, but bald face lies and misleading people is inappropriate and harmful to the community. If accuracy is all your after, anything .308 is sub-par for some. You need to determine what features are important, what your price point is, and purchase a rifle best suited for your needs - not attack somebody for picking a rifle that fits their desires or needs. I will go out on a limb and state there is not a single respectable shooter who would claim the M1A is a garbage rifle, it's proved for decades it can do just about anything.

I wish you would have read my other posts first. I already mentioned the superior rifles throughout. Sorry, I don't remember claiming any war experiences...I do run 3 gun tournaments in PA,..which are about as tactical as a civilian can get legally... by the way, no one runs M1As in heavy metal matches...weird huh? No one needs to be ripped up by a gun manufacturer whose costs and design are overpriced and antiquated. #didntaddanythingtotheconversation #oldgunsarentusedforareason #stopsupportingdealsthatarentdeals

Just for fun I spent a couple hours watching the hundreds of 3 gun matches being run with M1As, plenty of great scores. It's amazing seeing how well somebody with training can handle these weapons. Patrick E Kelley for example does a really great job. I think I might have to run an M1A next time, I won't be winning anything but we can show the next generation of competitors how great these are.

The real deal will be the heavy metal matches where .308 and greater combat rifles are required, the normal matches have a strong bias to a low recoiling round that allows instant followups.

I bought an American made S&W M&P10 .308 cal, brand new, Dec 2013 for $1108 shipped to my FFL.
(Thanks Cody!) That's just a little more than a stamped out .308 VEPR. So...rinehart13, go back to your video games, and in a couple of years you can graduate to Airsoft. Maybe if Santa is really nice, he'll bring you a nice American made Ruger 10/22.

I've seen .308 VEPRs go on sale for $599. You got ripped off. Russians weapons have always been among the best. It will shoot just as good as any other .308. Once again, these American gun companies continue to rip off the American citizens. The truth hurts.

The best part about the trolls? They never provide a better price on the object being discussed. They always talk about some lesser, inferior object which sells for less.
That's OK though, their mommy's basement is cheaper rent than a condo and if it works for them... then fine.

A $599 .308 VEPR will shoot just as well as any .308 on the market. Go spend $1700 and get ripped off if it makes you feel better.

Since these American companies don't want the average American citizen to be able to afford these rifles, just go pick of a Russian VEPR in the same caliber for 1/3 of the price and even better quality.

Lol your definately a troll...

I'm being dead serious. Screw these overpriced American companies like Springfield. I'll gladly buy a semi automatic VEPR for 1/3 of the price. Better quality, and much more rugged. Do you even know what a troll is?

Ok first off a quality vepr is not 1/3 the price its 1/2, and a quality vepr cant even out shoot a low-end standard m1a. You may have the rigged part right but definately not quality...

I've seen .308 VEPRS for $599

Yah with unfinshed stocks, no rubber buttpad for the .308 recoil...ouch, and not even comparable in quality to a premium vepr which cant even compare to a standard m1a...

Oh no, a custom finish of your choice which probably costs what? $10? And women like you need your rubber buttpad hahaha! A Russian VEPR is better quality than this rip off. The truth continues to hurt.

Overpriced or not, while the haters continue to hate, apparently someone thought it was a deal - the rifle has been OOS for awhile.

$1700 for an m1a? There are plenty of .308s with the same accuracy better ergos, lighter, cheaper, with cheaper magazines. Is there a premium on outdated nostalgic rifles?

Really now, name one. Simple as that. And no bolt actions, this is match grade from the barrel right down to the two-stage trigger. This isnt thrown on an assembly line and thrown together.

Moa is moa out of an m1a or sig 716 or ruger 762... match grade is a Springfield term to rape their customers.....but you are probably into that!

Springfield should be ashamed of themselves for selling the American weapons for such an expensive price. These things should be old at 25% of that price to Americans.

1 vote
2 votes

I agree it's expensive but remember you get what you pay for. I'm sure they could produce one for cheaper but then I'm sure you would complain that it feels cheap and shoots like crap. And for 25% of the price they are asking you couldn't buy a AK47 not to mention this is the National Match grade edition... The regular M1a can be had for less... And it seems that you have nothing good to say about any deals on slick guns, maybe you should do some research before you post anymore dumb comments. If you don't like the deals the nice people post on here go somewhere else troll...

1 vote

Exactly, you fool. This is a gun made in America, and they're ripping off America. I guarantee it costs less than $100 to manufacture these things. And the middle class people who should be able to easily afford this American rifle, can't. That's the fucking problem. I can go out and buy a foreign made AK47 for a much cheaper price than this. And yes I can buy a Yugo AK47 pistol for $399. 25% of the price, and made just as well. The prices on M1As and M1 Garands are absolute rip offs. These manufactures should be ashamed of themselves. You don't get what you pay for. You should do some research. You're the troll.

You thumbed up your own comment? What a loser. lol
An AK has a reputation as being the cheapest piece of crap that will run reliably even if you pull it out of a puddle of shit. And 399 is the very bottom end even for those cheap rifles. I have nothing against AKs, but why would you compare a completely different gun in a different caliber manufactured by cheap overseas labor to a quality Made In America gun?
" I guarantee it costs less than $100 to manufacture these things"
Why make such a statement and prove beyond a doubt you have no idea what you're talking about?

If you are "middle class" and cannot find $1700, you need a personal finance coach.

If you think it costs less than $100 to produce this rifle, start producing them and put SA out of business.

If you think an AK compares to this rifle, you are high. At least now we know your middle class money is squandered on pot.

You're one of those rich guys that thinks he's middle class. That explains everything. If you don't think spending $1700 on a firearm is a huge deal, then you've probably never had kids. I don't smoke pot. And a piece of metal, and a piece of wood manufactured into a 40 year old design...yeah it costs less than $100. In the field, an AK47 is a much better rifle than this gun.

1 vote
0 votes

Well you must be smoking something. There is no way you can produce this rifle for $100 nor is a AK47 on the same level as this rifle. Nowhere near the same quality.

0 votes

I'm one of those guys who can look at them side-by-side and know which gun is a surplus import and which one is a badass rifle.

"In the field"...blah blah blah. In the field for what? You in a militia? If "in the field" means "drunk on a river bank", the AK is for you.

If you cannot afford $1700 for this rifle, you probably can't afford $1700 for anything. Stop having kids you can't afford and stop talking out of your ass about the cost of producing this rifle.

Patriotic assholes who bitch about getting by on a middle class wage think it's great to buy surplus rifles from Communist countries...because the American craftsmen at Springfield Armory don't deserve a middle class life. Priceless.

Sad but if I remember right the USMC in 1970 charged $ 143.00 as replacement cost for a M14. So I don't think you could make one for $100 today. That is a little crazy statement. Drink a BUD and have a good night rinehart13 you need some rest.

1 vote

So the price of wood and metal multiplied in value by over 10x within 40 years? Look... although I like to keep responding to all of these guys on here because they get so pissed off- I honesty believe that Springfield is ripping off the middle class American by charging damn near 2 grand for this rifle. I get that it's extremely high quality, but for this price, i'm not paying. I'll just buy another semi auto .308 for a lot cheaper. I'm not nearly as old as everyone thinks I am either. Not even old enough to drink beer. Age is besides the point though. It's about common sense. If everyone wants to spend $1700 on a rifle made in America, then do it. But i'll stick to something else until I can buy one of these things for $600-$800 which is what they're actually worth.
