The Maverick 88 is a pump action shotgun made by O.F. Mossberg & Sons. In essence, the Maverick 88 is a Mossberg 500 with fewer features. Factory Maverick 88s come equipped with a cross-bolt safety, cylinder bore (although some hunting versions also offer replaceable chokes), and black synthetic-only stock and forearm. Most of the components, such as barrels, stocks, and magazine tubes, are interchangeable between Maverick 88 and Mossberg 500 (the barrel and magazines must be the same length), but the trigger groups are not. Unlike the Mossberg 500 line, the Maverick 88 does not have any sling mounts. The 88 comes in four different models: Slug, Security, Security /w Top-Folding Stock, and All-Purpose. The All-Purpose variant is available with a 28-inch barrel in 12 gauge, a 26-inch barrel in 20 gauge, or a 22-inch barrel with a vent rib in 22 gauge (youth version). An 18.5-inch or 20-inch non-vent-rib barrel is the feature of the Security model. Only available in 18.5-inch, the Security /w Top-Folding Stock has a pistol grip. The 24-inch barrels on the Slug variant come in either cylinder or fully rifled bore options.
