The Colt King Cobra, first introduced in 1986, is a medium-frame, double-action revolver that evolved from the Trooper MK V design. It was developed with enhancements like a heavier-duty barrel, a full-length ejector rod shroud, and a thicker solid rib on top. Originally offered in blued and stainless steel finishes, with barrel lengths of 2.5", 4", 6", and 8", the King Cobra was produced until 1992, briefly revived from 1994 to 1998, and reintroduced in 2019. The modern King Cobra retains its classic features but with updates, including a stainless steel construction with a brushed finish, a heavy-duty top strap, and a fluted six-shot cylinder that rotates clockwise. The reissued models are available with barrel lengths of 2" and 3", and the Target variant features 4.25" and 6". The King Cobra Target model features an adjustable rear sight and red fiber-optic front sight, while the King Cobra Carry is a 2" barrel version with a bobbed hammer for double-action-only use. The new King Cobra incorporates modern improvements like the Linear Leaf spring system for a smoother trigger pull, blending traditional aesthetics with contemporary functionality. Notably, the original models included a variety of finishes and grip options, and even rare configurations, like the 3" barrel version made for the Montreal Police Department, are now sought-after collectibles. The latest addition, the King Cobra Target chambered in .22LR, was released in 2022.
