The Colt Cobra, originally introduced in 1950, is a small-frame revolver known for its lightweight design and reliability. The first model featured an aluminum frame, making it popular among law enforcement and civilians for concealed carry, weighing only 15 oz with a 2" barrel. This model was followed by the second version in 1972, which introduced a shrouded ejector rod and Baughman-style ramp front sight, slightly increasing the weight to 16 oz. Both models were chambered for .38 Special but were not rated for +P cartridges. In 2017, Colt reintroduced the Cobra with significant updates, including a robust stainless steel frame and a weight of 24.8 oz, enhancing its shootability with .38 Special +P ammunition. The modern Cobra features a 2.1" barrel, a fiber-optic front sight, and Hogue rubber grips for improved handling and accuracy. The trigger has been redesigned to offer a smoother double-action pull, making it one of the best triggers Colt has produced. This reintroduction marked Colt's successful return to manufacturing double-action revolvers, blending classic design with modern enhancements to appeal to contemporary shooters.
