it works the same way a pump shotgun works.

there's a pump grip outside the handguard that you pump cycles the action: pull back it extracts the spent cart, ejects it, then going forward it feeds the next round from the top of the mag into the chamber and then locks until you either push the release button or the firearm cycles.

if it worked like a charging handle it would just be a weird semi-automatic rifle.

Ballistic Advantage 9mm Glock 43/43X PVD SS (Light Gray) Threaded Non-fluted Barrel - $92.5

I ordered and received this barrel plus another for my G17. The BA 43X barrel is very lightweight even without fluting. The original Glock barrel weighs 2.50 oz. While the BA barrel weighs only 2.55oz. So only .05oz more despite being 1/2” longer.
There is also some difference in the outer profile of the area where the barrel meets the chamber. Not sure if makes any difference. Have not tried firing it.
This may just be a range practice barrel.
