That makes sense. The Galil’s gas system was designed around 5.56 NATO, so I figured weaker .223 loads might be a little less forgiving. Most of my ammo is 5.56 anyway, so it shouldn’t be much of an issue.

That’s actually one of the things that appeals to me. I don’t mind a heavier rifle if it shoots softer. The heat is definitely something to keep in mind, though. From what I’ve read, that’s pretty common with Galil-style rifles. At $930, I’m having a hard time convincing myself not to pick one up.

I’m thinking about picking up one of the JRA Gallants while they’re on sale for around $930. I already have a Noveski AR-15, so I know they’re completely different rifles, but I’m curious how they compare in the real world.

I’m not expecting the Gallant to outshoot the Noveski, but how does it stack up in terms of reliability, accuracy, and overall quality? Is it the kind of rifle you’d trust for high round counts, or is it more of a fun range gun?

For those who own or have shot both, do you think the Gallant is worth adding to the collection at that price, or would you save the money for something else? I’d appreciate hearing your experiences.

Eh, I love your simile, but I don't mind the AUG. The Hellion is a dog for me in many ways though. As long as we don't expect AR trigger response from these bullpups it's acceptable. Now if we could get the full auto AUG trigger .........

I agree w TacMonkey. Just my opinion but they are good rifles, and I own many other more expensive "better" AK's, a Krebs Custom, as well as 2 PSA's.....one GF2 and one GF3. PSA has been making them for quite a while. Overall mechanics are good and the finish much better than some. Flush rivets, sight alignment, complete mag, furniture and parts compatibility, minimal trunnion wear, acceptable gas components, long life barrel, and excellent warranty in case you get a lemon. I wasn't going to comment on your question as people are so opinionated about AK originality but if you don't want to pay for Russian, Chinese, Polish, Romanian lineage then I think you'll be satisfied with the PSA. They are shooters, and you won't feel bad about getting them dirty. There are many other good brands but none in this price range with equal warranty to my knowledge. The PSA I shot in competition sits loaded next to my bed...not the smartest move in case of litigation but it is just so reliable, and I've beat it to hell. I paid about $450 a piece for my PSA blems. You might check out AKOU reviews and the Gun Digest article on them.

I’ve had mine for about seven years put maybe 2500 rounds through it mostly Tula. I haven’t had any issues. Decent trigger and works with all the magazines I’ve used metal, plastic, and drums. I like it the only thing was initially reluctant in buying it was that its barrel is nitrided instead of chrome lined. But that was when AK ammo was cheaper than AR ammo. Now I know I’m never going to put enough rounds through it to shoot out the barrel.
