16" barrel seems a bit short for 308 and this rifle format. A 20" barrel on a Ruger precision rifle will give about 200 ft-lb more energy (=longer effective range, a little flatter trajectory). Of course the longer barrel itself is more weight.

Long range shooting is not the intent of this platform, so the extra length is unnecessary and directly contradicts the purpose. It's meant as a light-weight backpack rifle for close to medium range. Seems to be a damn solid option and a reasonable price for that niche.

Hahaha a "backpack" rifle for hunting close range? really? yeah that stock, receiver, and barrel all scream "backpack rifle"... SMH. This is for mid to long range target or post up type hunting for animals like predators. Maybe you misread the factory description and got long range "Back country" hunting and saw "backpack"?
Simply read the factory description.

I'm not complaining about having options, but if a lightweight 308 bolt action is the category, check out the Ruger Scout 16" CHF barrel with a composite stock. Weighs less and cots a lot less. Maybe the downside for some is it doesn't look as tacticool. The stock doesn't fold and won't double as a grappling hook on stuff either.

Missed by a mile, hope you shoot better than think.
This rifle is built specifically to look 'cool' and sell a bunch, being made as cheaply as possible for maximum profit.
Or...don't you understand how manufacturing works for a large world wide conglomerate ?
Just look at it and it should be obvious.
If you want something to fit your description buy a Desert Tech or something else that isn't built to mattel levels of quality.

Missed by 2 miles. Sig Sauer is not a conglomerate by any means whatsoever. I hope you shoot better than you think and speak English.

How embarrassing for you.

Thanks for the completely unnecessarily rude post. Have you shot this rifle? Have you put it through the paces yourself? If so I'd love to hear about what you did to test reliability and function through which scenarios. Assuming you haven't done that, we're left to rely on other people's reviews of the platform, which from what I've seen are quite positive about it for it's intended use. Feel free to disagree and provide links to reviews and data saying otherwise, I'd love to see them and read about the details. The original post talked about the RPR, which is absolutely not the same package or intent in any way shape or form, so I provided some clarification (over 10lb vs 6.5lb rifle). I'd also argue that the RPR isn't meant to be an ultra reliable and immaculate quality product, yet it still costs a similar amount as the Sig and is similarly well reviewed as a 'budget' option for long range shooting in the 6mm and 6.5mm CM. Desert Tech definitely makes some great rifles, but they are over twice (close to three times) the cost and still weigh a good bit more than this rifle. It's just not in the same tier and cannot be fairly compared. That's like telling people not to buy an AR-10 because everything else sucks compared to a KAC SR-25. Depending on what people are looking for in a rifle, there are plenty of great options at better prices. Not everyone is an operator who needs 100% reliability in a brutal environment. I don't know what triggered you, but I'd like to see the data so I can understand your logic.

The stock was flimsy and would move about 1/4 inch on the lateral usually right at the point you were trying to squeeze a shot off.
A 2 stage trigger on a precision rifle OR a hunting rifle is unacceptable, it just doesn't break cleanly enough to tag a man at 600 yards or a buck at 400 yards.
Bolt, sloppy and had a tendency to slop to the side when pushing forward and caused it to bind....quick second shot was iffy at best.
Accuracy was ok but nothing to write home about, 1 moa to 300 and then opened to maybe 1.5.
In short I would not trust this rifle on a hunt due to the issues mentioned and certainly would not trust my life on it in a combat situation nor in a home defense or situation that required a precise shot..
Is that enough for your whiny ass ?
BTW:
SIG SAUER is headquartered in Newington, New Hampshire on a sprawling campus at Pease International Tradeport with locations in Epping, Exeter and Dover, New Hampshire, an Electro-Optics facility in Wilsonville, Oregon and a state-of-the-art ammunitions facility in Jacksonville, Arkansas.
Parent company:

SIG SAUER AG
Swiss Arms

So, do you need help defining 'conglomerate' or can you handle that from there ?

I can bang steel all day at 300 yards with a mosin. With surplus. With irons. Please tell me about how a two stage trigger and a deer at 400 yards is “unacceptable”. Textbook dude blaming his gear right here!

I dunno about you guys, but this fudd trying to sound like long range shooter just made me a little sad. There there Fudd.
