There is a stainless 18" model at my LGS here in Chicago burbs. I shit you not!
Well I posted that almost 2 years ago.. It would have either been at gat or cabelas, I don't recall. But I have a feeling it sold by now
I really like this but have bought all 3 Savage Hog Hunters 223, 308, 338 mag & like them all & paid in the $330 range for each. They're accurate have threaded barrels but not nice wood stocks but for less than 1/2 price I'm happy!
Does anyone have any intel in this? I've been wanting the newer one with the longer barrel but haven't heard much about it.. Anyone own one?
Oh yea. Love mine man. Awesome Rifle. If you don't understand the concept behind the design then you will not appreciate it. High powered, compact, lightweight, butter smooth Mauser bolt action.
Mags are expensive though. $75 for 10rnd (metal) and $40 for 10rnd (polymer) and of course the steel mags are better than the poly. The poly mag spring is a bit weak. That is probably the only thing that pisses me off about this rifle is the price of the mags. Mags come in 10rnd, 5rnd, and 3rnd capacity which is cool but the price for them doesn't vary by much if at all. Which is BS!
The flash hider is kinda cheap and makes a "ping" sound when engaging the bolt. I didn't like it so I swapped it out with the griffin Flash\Comp. http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Griffin_Armament_7_62_Flash_Compensator_XHP762Flas_p/ga-xhp762flashcomp.htm.... Now it's perfect. This rifle does NOT like any Poly coated ammunition. Only use brass. Trust me on this.
There is a bit of a good kick when firing but the gel buttpad absorbs the shock pretty well. I am no wuss so I can fire this rifle all day. I did put a scope on it at first but then decided I liked this rifle better with just the irons. Putting a scope on it just defeated the purpose of this rifle as well as the profile and portability. Now, it's grab and go. One 10rnd mag filled with ammo and my holstered 357 revolver and I can walk country miles through the Texas brush
All in all I am extremely happy with this rifle but would be lieing if I said I didn't want the longer barrel version. Unfortunately, I bought this rifle before they came out with the longer barrel. Still, I will never sell or trade it. it's staying in my collection permanently.
Lastly, here is a great write up on anything and everything about this great rifle. Alot of information. The guy did a great job on this write up and it is an entertaining read. http://www.gunsumerreports.com/review_ruger_m77-gs_p1.php....
CTD (I know, I know!) has the metal 10 rounders in stock for $50 right now, while Midway has the polymer ones for $30. I actually found some polymers for $35 locally! I kind of prefer the polymers, due to a significant reduction in weight and I believe that they fixed the weak spring feeding issues of the initial production batch. Mine do have trouble feeding the last few of the snap-cap dummy rounds that I have, but those things are different (smaller) size from any of my .308 or 7.62x51 mm NATO ammo for some weird reason and the real stuff seems to cycle 100%. I am very new to this weapon and haven't even fired it yet, but I love the compactness and light weight of it, the smooth, stainless Mauser bolt, the nice black laminate stock and am definitely sold on the whole scout concept. I just got in my QD Warne rings and am going to mount a scout scope. It's a cheap NCStar 2-7x42, but is surprisingly clear and has "passed the test", by holding strong while mounted on a particularly accurate Mosin for a few years, including some harsh conditions hunting trips. I scored a perfect heart hit on a deer from 200 yards using it!
I do wish that you could top-off the mags inside the rifle tho, either one-by-one or using stripper clips.
I like the "I know, I know" comment. Its standard on comments these days...
yea, because if you don't do that someone will call you an asshat for mentioning they who should not be named.
Yeah sounds like they have a real PR problem.
For good reason CTD assraped the gun community in 2013 now they are getting their come-uppins
