Just got mine a few days ago. There is NO gap at the front sight block. It's a heavy barrel profile, and only steps down in FRONT of the FSB. Hell of a deal for $199!

thats great, perhaps PSA has changed/updated their design..

Im still peeved about mine, but glad you got one without the ugly gap.

I really like mine. For $200 and using some spare parts I had lying around the house, I now have a brand new AR that functions perfectly for what it's intended to do, and an AR that looks way different than all the other keymodded and M-popped and lokked clones at the range. I also received mine less than a week after ordering. If you're on the fence, I say go for it.

Lol.. 8 months later and i still feel inclined to comment when this deal shows up... see my post about the gap that PSA feels is acceptable.

After seeing your post I purchased a mid-length from them. Thank you for the heads up!

I have the MOE handgaurd version of this dissi. I've never noticed a gap, but I've never looked for it either. (I'll need to check when I go home)

I purchased it as an iron sights trainer (long sight radius) for my boys and it has worked just peachy in that regard. Had it for about a year or so with no complaints. Boys love it.

FYI i bought one of these a while back (months ago but within the past year)... i was disappointed in the build. - the barrel is not ideal for a dissy, the profile of the barrel is constant from the muzzle until the mid length gas block (which is sized appropriately for a mid length gas block)

The front sight however is also sized as a gas block. So most (all that ive ever seen) dissy barrels are designed as dissys and appropriately oversized in both the areas of the gas block and FSB. This barrel is NOT, and as a result you have a horrible looking gap where the FSB pins to the barrel.

Such a shoemaker job, PSA gives the standard "this doesnt affect function" line.. but man its ridiculous to think they wouldnt mention this somewhere in the description.

Just do a search for "PSA Freedom dissipator gap"

If i could do it over again i would have bought one of better quality (though i have no other qualms for the price).

Budget Style? Yes, it could be viewed as "budget style" and one grade level above PTAC. When reading some info from PSA's website, the Freedom Series consist of a certain group of products (like this upper) with the entry level buyer or builder in mind and a tad less expensive than a comparable PSA upper that is not a part of the "Freedom Series." My understanding is that PSA is carrying the PTAC product line like they carry the S&W or Remington products. One thing is probably certain: The Freedom Series barrel is not made by FN !! The Freedom line looks like a good, viable choice for the new AR buyer and/or first time AR DIY builder.

This freedom series is like a budget style right.. maybe one step above PTAC?
