NBS Free Float M-LOK Handguard

The NBS Free Float M-LOK Handguard is a no-nonsense American made M-LOK compatible rail system designed for versatility and simplicity. It features a monolithic top picatinny rail and the remaining 7 sides all feature M-LOK attachment slots. Precision machined from 6061-T6 aluminum extrusions then type 3 hard coat anodized, you can be sure that this handguard will withstand an incredible amount of abuse. Its slim profile feels great in the hand yet with a 1.35" inside diameter it can accommodate any true low profile gas block and has enough clearance to recess some muzzle devices such as flash cans and linear compensators. I just got it in the mail this morning.... it’s a nice combo... only thing that bothers me is the aluminum barrel nut.... I’ve always used steel barrel nuts...

Upper is 6061. Probably fine, but the standard 7075 is approximately twice the strength.

For perspective, the FN SCAR's receiver, even the 7.62x51, is extruded 60xx series aluminum. That's a $2500 gun, and extrusions are much weaker than CNC machined billet block.

I didn't realize that extrusions were weaker than machined billet.

Really depends on how the billet starts, is it cast, extruded, rolled, or forged? But generally an extruded part will have less material mass than a CNC'd part from billet block in something like a receiver.

But again, the receiver doesn't take much load anyway, that would be the barrel extension and the bolt in a lockup semi auto, so the whole thing is probably academic.
