LR-308 Upper Build Starter Kit Featuring: Faxon Firearms 12" 8.6 BLK Big Gunner Barrel
Upper
Upper Receivers mount and house the barrel, handguard, and gas system in an AR-15 or LR-308/AR-10. Custom upper receivers vary from Side Chargers, and Skeletonized uppers, to Rigidity Reinforced or 'Lite' receivers, where certain features such as the forward assist and brass deflector are removed to streamline the design. This also applies to most Pistol Caliber Carbine upper receivers with special ejection door cuts made specific for 9mm or .45ACP.
About this Upper: This Low Profile, LR-308 Upper Receiver is DPMS style upper receiver custom built for the highest performance LR-308 builds. Featuring a forward assist assembly and compatibility with low-profile LR-308 handguards. This upper receiver is compatible with CMMG, Aero Precision, James Madison Tactical, Polymer 80, and many other lower receivers.
Material: Forged 7075-T6 Aluminum - 7075-T6 Aluminum is a high-strength alloy metal with great ductility, toughness, and resistance against fatigue. 7075-T6 was standardized for use in Aerospace equipment and aircraft. The Suffix T6 is a temperament treatment to increase the overall toughness and strength of the Aluminum. 7075-T6 Aluminum was chosen for the AR-15 platform for its ease of manufacturing, lightweight properties, and strength.
Style: The Gauntlet Arms "Goblin" DPMS Style Upper Receiver is a custom low-profile LR-308 upper.
Finish: Anodized - This upper receiver is anodized, this process increases the thickness and hardness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of the metal parts. This increases the corrosion and wear resistance of the Upper Receiver.
Caliber compatibility: This upper receiver will work with standard battle rifle cartridges such as .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, .243 Winchester, .338 Federal, and .300WSM.
Top Section: Flat Top Rail - This upper receiver features a full 1913 Picatinny rail for the additional Optics installation and Iron Sight installation.
Anti-Rotation Tab compatibility: This upper receiver will NOT allow the installation of handguards with anti-rotation tabs incorporated into their design.
Dust Door
Dust Doors on the LR-308 / AR-10 platform are a barrier between the action and elements. This prevents dirt and debris from getting into the working bits of the rifle. Under constant spring pressure, the action of the bolt carrier reciprocating or being manually cycled the dust door will open up allowing ejection out of the door. During travel, the dust door can be closed and held in place with a captive detent holding it against a groove cutout in the upper receiver.
Material: Aluminum - This dust door is made from the same aluminum found on the upper and lower receiver of an AR-15.
Compatibility: LR-308 Size Dust Door
Color / Finish: Black
Barrel
General Barrel Info: The barrel on an AR-10/ LR-308 pistol operates through a 'gas impingement' system, where gas is tapped from off the LR-308 barrel and cycled back through a connected gas system to help the bolt carrier extract a spent cartridge. Pistol length LR-308 barrels come in two gas lengths, Pistol, Carbine, & Mid-Length. AR-10 Pistol barrels can be chambered in a variety of different calibers from rifle to pistol cartridges. Thanks to the modularity of the platform, your next pistol will be incredibly easy.

About This Barrel: This barrel from Faxon Firearms is chambered in 8.6 Blackout which channels rotational energy to increase energy on-target. These barrels have been air-gauge and MPI tested to ensure accuracy and reliability. It is machined from 4150 CMV with a salt bath nitride finish to make it durable. It has a big gunner profile and operates on a pistol gas system.
Barrel Classification: Pistol
Length: This Barrel is designated as a pistol length barrel with an overall length of 12".
Caliber: 8.6 Blackout was developed by Kevin Brittingham and his team at Q. It is often referred to as 300 Blackouts big brother and it's easy to see why. What 300BLK provided to the AR-15 platform, 8.6BLK does for AR-10’s. The parent case being 6.5 Creedmoor, 8.6BLK is trimmed down and necked up for a .338 projectile. Heavier mass means more energy transfer on target. Barrels are being run with a fast 1:3 twist, creating devastating terminal performance.
Material: 4150 CrMoV - Chrome-Moly Vanadium, or simply "CMV", is the official mil-spec gun steel developed by Colt Firearms for the military-issued M16 and M4. It contains the same elements as 4150 steel. It also contains Vanadium. Vanadium significantly increases the strength, hardness, and high-temperature stability of the steel.
Finish: Nitride - Nitriding is a process during manufacturing that diffuses nitrogen into the steel to make a case-hardened surface for improved resistance and strength. A Nitrided barrel typically has a gloss black texture.
Thread Pitch: M18x1.5
Gas Block
The Gas Block on your AR-15 / AR-10 style rifle is an integral part of the gas system that allows your rifle to cycle. By tapping off gas from the barrel and diverting it back into the gas key of the bolt carrier group, there is enough inertial force to unlock the bolt carrier, send it rearward to the recoil assembly, and extract and pickup another cartridge to fire.
About this Gas Block: This gas block is machined with a .875 Gas Port. .875 Gas Ports are found on both AR-15 barrels chambered in .223 Remington, 5.56 NATO, and .300 Blackout; and AR-10 barrels chambered in .308, 7.62 NATO, and 6.5 Creedmoor. This gas block size is known for its reliability it assists the rifle function in regular and adverse conditions. .875 Is larger than standard .750 gas blocks and will tap more gas off from the barrel. This gas block has a 'low-profile' design and is made to fit underneath a free-float handguard.
Gas Port Size: This gas block is a larger than average .875 size gas block.
Platform: This gas block will work on both AR-15 and AR-10 barrels, for .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrels, be mindful of possible tolerance issues in the barrel profile.
Profile: This Gas Block is 'low-profile' and designed to fit underneath freefloat handguards.
Finish: Phosphate - This gas block uses a phosphate finish, making it have improved rust and corrosion resistance. Phosphate finishes typically make the part have a matte finish.
Attachment Style: Slide On - This gas block has a fixed size and must slide on from the front of the rifle and is secured in place with 2 set screws near the bottom.
Material: Steel - This gas block is made from hardened & tempered steel, providing the strength and rigidity to withstand forces of expanding gasses and vibration from the rifle or pistol under operation.
DISCLAIMER: **Before purchasing, please be mindful of possible tolerance differences resulting from your handguard profile, barrel profile, gas length, and barrel gas port.**
Muzzle
General Info: There are three main types of muzzle devices for your weapon: flash suppressors/flash hiders, muzzle brakes, and compensators. With a good muzzle, brake recoil can be reduced even more and with a good compensator, muzzle rise significantly drops, almost vanishing. While muzzle flash cannot be eliminated, it can be significantly reduced with a quality flash hider. These muzzle devices are becoming increasingly more popular due to how easy they are to put on (5-10 minutes), their incredible efficiency, and because they make a good-looking gun.
About This Muzzle Device: 8.6 Blackout is a new LR-308 caliber designed by Faxon Firearms to be the "300 Blackout" of the LR-308 Platform. This muzzle brake features a three-chamber design that effectively reduces felt recoil and is specifically made for the M18x1.5 thread pitch which is found on 8.6 Blackout Barrels.
Threading: M18x1.5 is a thread for muzzle devices made for 8.6 BLK.
Finish: Nitride - Nitriding is a process during manufacturing that diffuses nitrogen into the steel to make a case-hardened surface for improved resistance and strength. A Nitrided muzzle device typically has a glossy black appearance.
Chambers: This Muzzle Brake has 3 chambers to catch the expanding gasses and divert them to the sides of the shooter, reducing recoil and increasing controllability.
