Description

When I first read the title of this video, “FN M249S Semi-Auto Version Release Video” I was sure it was just a late April Fool’s joke, and expected to see a SAW gunner clearing stoppage after stoppage after stoppage. However, during the 2015 NRA Show, FNH officially announced a semi-auto version of the M249 for civilian sale.

This M249S version of the classic light machine gun fires 5.56 from the closed bolt, unlike the automatic version we are all used to which fires from the open bolt.

Even though this model will require a trigger pull for each round fired, as a former SAW gunner I’m considering this purchase for sentimental value alone. The rumored MSRP for the M249S is around $4000. ~Funker

I still think a Shrike would be more versatile anyhow (given triggers and maybe a bump-saw setup). Yeah, I said bump, and meant it (though with a heavy AR upper, not a 249).

Seems like half of the M249s I shot were pretty much single shot anyways due to reliability issues. If they could at least get the AR mags to feed reliably on them then it would be kind of an interesting toy.

I literally was just thinking a few hours ago how stupid it would be for a semiauto M60 or M249 even exist and low and behold what the universe has greeted me with.....

m249s registered before 1986 are civilian legal. I think there are like 10 in the registry, other then that an m16 lower (15k) and shrike upper (2k) will get you almost there.
Also worth noting that for 4k ypu could probobly find a full auto m11 or mac 10 that will have you grinning way more then this heavy display peice.

TY Woo. Yes, my initial post was intended to be (quite) sarcastic. Speaking of sarcasm, I wonder if they'll also offer this in a bolt action for those of us who don't care for the semi-auto platform?

I would prefer break action myself. Much more reliable when dealing with belt fed ammo.
