Uberti

A. Uberti S.p.A., founded in 1959 by master gunsmith Aldo Uberti in Gardone Val Trompia, Italy, is renowned for producing high-quality replicas of 19th-century American firearms. Situated in a region with a rich history of arms manufacturing, Uberti aimed to recreate iconic firearms from the American Civil War and the Old West with exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. The company's first major success was a replica of the 1851 Colt Navy revolver, which led to a series of reproductions of Colt, Remington, and Winchester models. Today, Uberti's product line includes black powder revolvers, cartridge revolvers, and lever-action rifles, all crafted using modern materials and precision machinery while maintaining historical accuracy. These firearms are popular among collectors, historical reenactors, and participants in cowboy action shooting sports. Uberti's commitment to quality has earned it the reputation of producing replicas that often surpass the originals in performance and reliability. In 2000, Uberti became a subsidiary of Beretta Holding, integrating into a family of prestigious firearm brands. Uberti USA, headquartered in Accokeek, Maryland, manages the distribution and support of Uberti firearms in the United States. With a legacy of blending traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, Uberti continues to set the standard for historical firearm reproductions.

The Colt Buntline 1873 Single-Action target revolver has become one of the icons of the Old West. Only 31 of the original Buntline revolvers were ever produced, and only 18 of those are around today. The name Buntline Specials was given to long-barreled Peacemakers, based on this story: Tradition has it that dime novelist Ned Buntline presented special-order 1873 Colt revolvers with extra-long barrels, target sights, and detachable wire shoulder stocks to a select group of Old West celebrities. They included Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson. Firearm Specifications: Model: 344161

The Winchester 1873 Rifle was called the “rifle that won the West.” This piece of history is available in 7 distinctive models, including the Uberti 1873 Carbine and the Uberti 1873 Special Sporting Rifle, and others. When the gun was first offered, it was chambered in the powerful new .44-.40 cartridge. The .44 caliber bullet was propelled by 40 grains of black powder. The success of the 1873 Rifle was assured when Colt quickly offered its Peacemaker in the same caliber. Then a cowboy needed only 1 cartridge belt for a lever-action rifle plus his 6-shooter. The Uberti 1875 Army Outlaw is a faithful reproduction of the big-frame, Army-style revolver Remington introduced in 1875. The 1875 Remington single actions kept the solid frame and overall styling of Remington’s 1858 percussion models. These replicas are chambered in .45 Colt. The infamous Frank James carried a Remington revolver for most of his outlaw career. His favorite caliber was .45 Colt. The Uberti 1873 Cattleman Doc .357 Mag draws its visual inspiration from the elegant Colt Lightning-style revolver carried by John Henry “Doc” Holliday, the celebrated gambler, gunman, and sometime lawman who stood beside Wyatt Earp during some of the West’s most storied moments. While Doc’s original revolver was smaller and less mechanically robust, this model retains his distinctive styling while upgrading to the proven 1873 single-action design and the modern reliability of a fluted 6-shot cylinder.

The year 1873 was a turning point in the history of American firearms. It was then that Winchester introduced the Model 1873 as “The Gun That Won the West,” a lever-action that immediately revolutionized the way Americans viewed rifles. The 1873 was a strong, steel-framed centerfire rifle chambered in readily-available pistol-caliber cartridges capable of taking most American game save for the biggest and most dangerous.

In 1871, Colt received an Army contract to convert one thousand Model 1860 Army percussion revolvers to use the .44-caliber centerfire cartridge being manufactured at the Frankford Arsenal. In 1872, Colt began filling civilian orders for their metallic cartridge revolvers. These were an open-top conversion of the 1851 Navy. Thousands of Colt converted percussion revolvers found their way into the hands of sheriffs, outlaws, gunfighters, soldiers, cowboys, miners and ranchers throughout the Old West. Eventually, a total of 9,000 Open Tops and 2,100 Richards-Mason conversions were produced.

The Winchester Model 1866 was a revolutionary design when it was first produced. It might not have been the first leaver action rifle, but it did give rise to the popularity of their design. At the time of the Model 1866’s introduction, single shot muzzle-loading rifles reigned supreme, and repeating rifles that used metallic cartridges were still considered a novelty. The Model 1866’s ability to fire over and over again without reloading gave it’s user a massive amount of firepower and a considerable advantage over those still using muzzle loading designs.

The Uberti Cattleman II with retractable firing pin is a breakthrough for those seeking enhanced safety with regard to original Old West revolvers without sacrificing the visual authenticity of a 1st-generation Colt. As any cowboy knows, the safest way to carry a single-action is with the hammer resting on an unloaded chamber. This is true even for the Uberti retractable firing pin design. But in the case of the Uberti design, the risk of accidental discharge is reduced: the firing pin is not locked into the firing position unless the trigger is pulled.
