The six-shot cylinder is easily removed via a cylinder pin release, a feature that made the original design popular during the Civil War era as it allowed quick cylinder changes for faster reloading. The 1858 New Model Army faithfully reproduces historical features including the characteristic top strap integral with the frame, one-piece walnut grips, and the original-style front blade sight with rear sight notch.
