The FN SCAR series, developed by FN Herstal, represents a versatile family of gas-operated, short-stroke piston rifles. Introduced in 2004, the SCAR lineup includes the SCAR-L (Light) chambered in 5.56×45mm NATO and the SCAR-H (Heavy) chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO, each available in Close Quarters Combat (CQC), Standard (STD), and Long Barrel (LB) configurations. These rifles are known for their robust performance and adaptability, featuring fully ambidextrous controls, MIL-STD 1913 accessory rails, and modular components. The design facilitates rapid changes between configurations and calibers, making the SCAR series a favored choice for military and tactical use. The line of SCAR rifles is diverse and includes both military and civilian rifles. The civilian SCARs use the same multi-caliber architecture as their military counterparts but in the commercially legal semi-auto fire mode. The SCAR 15P and SCAR 16S are semi-automatic versions of the SCAR-SC and MK 16, chambered in 5.56×45mm NATO and available in matte black or flat dark earth. The SCAR 17S, a semi-automatic version of the SCAR Mk 17, is chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO and features a cold hammer-forged barrel and fully ambidextrous controls. The SCAR 20S, available in both 7.62×51mm and 6.5 Creedmoor, excels in long-range accuracy with a match-grade trigger, adjustable stock, and advanced recoil management features. Eventually, they were discontinued and replaced by the 2nd Gen SCARs rifles, recognizable by the NRCH mark added to the rifles' original marks. The NRCH stands for Non-Reciprocating Charging Handle, which added more adaptability and modularity to the rifles.
