A semi-automatic pistol chambered for the .22 Long Rifle ammo, the Browning Buck Mark is produced by the Browning Arms Company since 1985. Both the Challenger and International pistol versions were replaced by the Buck Mark. Also, the Buck Mark rifles employ the same mechanism as the pistol. The Buck Mark pistol is made of 7075 aluminum alloy and has a straight blowback action. The weapon fires .22 Long Rifle bullets, and the magazine may carry 10 rounds. Iron sights and thumb safety are included with the weapon. For improved visibility, certain models additionally have a fiber-optic front sight. A bull barrel, full-length scope rail, hardwood comfort grips, and Pachmayr grips are features for some other versions. With its direct blowback design, the action is more reliable and simpler. For improved grip, the slide incorporates raised side panels and an integrated recess. Bull barrels are a common feature on most models, to increase stability. The lightweight aluminum sleeve of the Lite variant contains a steel lining. “16-click per revolution” adjustable Pro-Target™ sight is standard on all models. A Truglo/Marble's fiber-optic front sight is included with Plus versions. Hooded target sights are part of the 5.5 Target model. The frames of each Buck Mark handgun are CNC machined from 7075-T6 aluminum to high standards, unlike the majority of popular 22LR pistols, which are cast or made from sheet metal stampings. There are several wooden, laminate, and composite design options available. Ergonomic finger grooves may be found on both the wood Ultragrip DeluxeTM (UDX) and soft nitrile Ultragrip RX (URX) ambidextrous grips. The Browning Buck Mark handgun is available in 36 versions (as of 2022), 8 of which are permitted in California.
