In 1866, the Winchester Repeating Arms Company created the lever-action repeating rifle known as the Winchester Model 1866. Because the receiver of the model was made of the bronze/brass alloy known as "gunmetal", it was also known as the "Yellow Boy." It was first made in two variations: a rifle and a carbine. The Model 1866 was one of the first effective lever-action guns to employ brass cartridges, greatly lowering the overall weight. The rifle has a steel trigger guard that is located in front of the huge lever loop, steel furniture, and an American walnut stock with a crescent butt plate. Additionally, the rifle has curved, one-piece hardwood grip panels on the back. A unique stock of the Model 1866 allows the rifle to be carried over the shoulder, with its butt swinging above the ground. The size of the Winchester Model 1866 is among its most notable features. In order to make the rifle more convenient for hunters who wished to use it on long hunting trips, it was made smaller and lighter. The rifle's overall weight of 8 pounds makes it far lighter than other rifles available at that time. The Winchester Model 1866 was created as a more compact, lightweight alternative to the era's heavier, more powerful carbines and rifles. Without sacrificing power or precision, the lower size enabled better mobility. The barrel of the Winchester Model 1866 has a length of 24 inches. The barrel features a very efficient cooling mechanism that enables the rifle to shoot continuously without suffering substantial accuracy losses from overheating. The Winchester Model 1866 can fire as fast as possible thanks to its tubular magazine, which can contain 14 rounds. The Model 1866 is a great hunting weapon due to its strength, precision, and maneuverability. With an effective range of up to 200 yards, this model is appropriate for both nearby and long-range game hunting. The Model 1866 has just a half-cock safety mechanism because it was primarily made for experienced gun owners who needed a weapon that might be ready to fire at any time.
