There are various configurations for the Model 85. These include "Ultralite" variations made of aluminum and titanium, as well as blued steel, stainless steel, polymer frames. Similar to Smith & Wesson revolvers, Model 85s can be supplied with exposed, "bobbed," or shrouded hammers. Numerous aesthetic choices are available, such as gold-plated hardware and grips made of wood or pearl. The Model 85 can fire +P rated rounds and is available with either 2" or 3" barrels. A transfer bar safety is used, and there are 38 Special rounds. The Taurus Security System is available on models created after 1997. The Model 856 has been added to the Model 85 series. This design is comparable to the Model 85, except it has a cylinder that can hold six rounds instead of five.
