The Smith & Wesson 586 revolver was first introduced in 1980 because law enforcement needed firearms that were heavier than the lightweight K-Frame models. This model is built on the L-Frame line that also includes models 581,681 and 686. The 586 is basically the same as the model 686. The model 586 is a single/double-action revolver, with a capacity of 6 rounds, and it shoots .357 Magnum and .38 Special ammunition. The most recent version of the 586 was released in 2012, the 586-8. It’s available in two variants, with a 4-inch, and 6-inch barrel. The overall length of the revolver is 9.3 or 11.3 inches, depending on the barrel length. Thanks to the L-Frame grip, the accuracy and comfortability of this gun are at a high level.
