When it comes to the whole AR versus AK, what I'm talking about here is everybody knows the reliability of the AK and everybody knows the potential accuracy of the 5.56, so what we have here is a combination or our cake and eat it too. PSA is also known for their high quality AKs and ARS. What about their AK 101? Is this the solution that we're looking for? Let's take a look and see what we can get for accuracy. Is this a great SHTF Government Collapse gun? I don't know! Let's find out!
I'm Drew Case from Beyond Seclusion bringing you the reviews directly here to gun.deals where I only give you my honest opinion, and it is what it is. Nobody debates the reliability of the AK or the accuracy of the AR. One of the big reasons I think there's such a big difference in the accuracy is the caliber, at least that's my theory, and this gives us the opportunity to test that. How many of you are interested in seeing what you can do with an AK in 5.56? Take a quick look at the spec and tech and see what we're working with.

Pretty much it's an AK, but let's just do a front to back! We got the comp, the front sight, all AK, nice Magpul furniture, the sights are traditional AK, really all that is the same. What I really want to show is if you're not familiar with this stock it's awesome, we have multiple quick detach and then for a web sling. And then the buttstock, just it's a bit stiff, at least the angle that I'm pulling at it, and then it just pulls out like that, it's a lot easier if you're holding it up and it's not on the table. And then on the flip side we've got a quick detach, quick detach, we just push this button. This one is going to fold to the right side, there we go. It's not going to be the most comfortable shooting with it closed, but it works. It's nice, I like it! And then we have the rail mount here on the side.
Let me show you the trigger. We just checked it's empty! The trigger is pretty classic AK, it's got a lot of take up, it just goes, it doesn't really have a stop. And then the reset is fairly long, audible/palpable, we got to measure that.
Let's just see what we've got here for pounds!
3 pounds!
I've had a lot of AKs and a lot of times they have hair triggers like that so just be aware!
Special thanks to Midwest Industries for sending the AK mount here for the optic, just really want to test out the accuracy. If you need a mount for your AK this is the way to go, it's the best.

There you go, straight out of the box!
Guys, I'm going to be honest, the old AK sights, they're not the easiest for me to use, it's hard for me to see the front sight post, but, anyway, I like to do a straight out-of-the-box. I always love doing the straight out-of-the-box not knowing anything about the sights. I played with it a little bit and I kind of figured out where I needed to put that rear sight for over there at 200 and 100, so check this out, a little bit more fun with the iron sights had some success at 200, not so much at 300, and then we'll go to a red dot after that.
Nice!
OK, 200 is easy! With the AK sights what I did was I moved it to the three so that I could put the steel target on top of the front sight post. Let's try this again maybe at 300.
Of course, we got it on the first shot, it is really hard going that distance, of course, I got the sun kind of in my face, but I cannot wait to get a red dot on this. We got a quality solid mount, now we need a quality solid optic to test the accuracy. I just happened to have a Steiner T1 Xi red dot to review, good timing. If you are not familiar with Steiner, guys, I think of them as Europe's Trijicon, they're made in Germany and are exceptional optics used by military/law enforcement and they do offer to the civilian market. You're going to want to check out the review on this, trust me. Anyway, enough talking, let's see what we can do with the 101. First thing is I want to get this zeroed at 50 yards, a battlefield zero, and then we're going to see how far up the hill can we go, can we get the 500 with a red dot. I also might try putting a scope on here, we'll see, anyway, let's get going.

I almost forgot one of the reasons why I would choose 5.56 in an AK for the SHTF Zombie Apocalypse, whatever is, because here in the States 5.56 hands down is the most readily available high power rifle ammo, there is next to 9mm, 5.56, I mean those are the top. If we were in Europe absolutely we'd go with 7.62x39, but here, 5.56 all the way, baby, in an AK.
I just want to try a variety here at 50 yards, and that's because I've got it zeroed at 50, so yeah, I'm going to go with 50 for my zero and see what kind of groups we can get with that red dot.
Real quick show you the field of view here for our accuracy test so you can see what we're looking at.
We just got done testing all nine of those loads, let's take a look!
That's not bad, some of those are pretty solid. We have over here on the side so you can kind of see the groups, that's a nice group, it liked that one! Would have liked that one had a flyer there, same. This one, that's our range ammo, that wasn't bad. That is why I zeroed it using the 55 grain AMAX, to me that's a clear winner. There you go, guys, what it likes and what it doesn't, you decide!
Let's try the AAC, the V-Max here! I've got the magnifier on, let's see how that works, we're going 300!
Nice!
Let's try four! Sometimes I actually have better luck without a magnifier, let's see if we can hit it at 400 without the magnifier!
Nice!
Sweet!
Five out of five at 400 with a red dot! It doesn't get much better than that. Can I even see the target at five? Yeah, we might have to give that a try!
Just go back to the 300 without the magnifier and just the dot and see how well that does!
I went back to just the full metal jacket. We'll let this cool down, and then I want to try the full metal jacket at 400. Let's see if we can hit up there at 500 with just the red dot. I took the magnifier off, it just wasn't helping.
The first shot!!!
You got to love at 500 yards, with an AK, with a 3 MOA red dot, nice! I’m still holding pressure on the trigger here. Alright, let's see if we can do another one.
Nice!
I'm going to be honest, guys, I can hardly even see the target! You got to see what I'm seeing through here.
I had to try a few more at 500, put some paint on it.
I just got some full metal jacket range ammo here, let's see what we can do at 200 standing.
As your dot is moving you actually have to start pulling the trigger where you think it's going to be as you're moving! Let's try 300! At least for me, that dots is moving around a lot on that target.
If you want a 10-round mag, something that you can bench, the AC Unity is really the only choice. It's iffy, it it's kind of finicky sometimes times, but it's really the only option if you want to bag it, in my opinion.
So, what do dads like better than shooting? Shooting with their kids! So, we got a special guest, this is my 16-year-old Wyatt and he has been dying to get this AK, he's a good shot, let's stick him on the bench, let's see how far he can walk up the hill.
Aright, man, whenever you're ready, send it!
That's too easy! Swing over to three! You still put the red dot on the target at three, maybe towards the head on the target.
Nice!
Drew: Okay! Opinion?
Wyatt: I love it!
We're going for 400 up there and I just told him to hold over.
Nice!
Dad’s get a brag, Wyatt shot the steel for the first time when he was six years old with my 6.5 Grendel, and I was so proud of him, and then I took him to PSA in South Carolina about two and a half years ago and he shot the one mile on his second shot, he's a good shot.
There you have it, guys, it is what it is! I hope that you found this useful, I hope that it answered your questions and that you got what you were looking for.
