Staccato P - The Ultimate 2011 Duty Gun
Hey, everybody, welcome back to gun.deals. Today, on the table, we have a Staccato P. Let’s get this review started.
Alright, so let’s start at the bottom here, we’re gonna go over, we’ll go right to the bottom here with this extended magwell, this flared magwell, I do like it a lot, and if you don’t like this for some reason, you can just pop the pin out and take it off, but I do like it a lot for easy insertion of your mags, makes life just that little bit easier.

The only downside to having this on here is if you do conceal carry it will print a little bit. This gun’s too big for me to personally conceal carry, this would be an out of the waistband carry for me personally, so it’s not really an issue, and I do like on there anyway.
Now, moving up, you’ve got some really nice grip texture all the way around here. Some people have complained and think it’s not aggressive enough, I actually think it feels very, very comfortable in the hand, and I do like it a lot.
Now, it is a polymer, it is a polymer grips, and you can change these out, there is variations out there, if you want to change them out, and just bear in mind also, if you change out the grips it will actually change out your trigger guard also because it’s polymer and attached to your grips right here, so that would change that out all completely. We do have a nice grip safety right there with an extended beaver tail sitting out to the back right there. You have a nice trigger undercut right here, and I can get a very nice purchase on this gun, I have a medium-sized hands and the gun is very, very comfortable in my hands indeed, very, very comfortable.
Now, we do have, obviously, our mag release right here, so you can switch that safety to the other side on here if you’re a left-handed shooter, so I do like that feature a lot also.
Now, moving up, we do have our safety right there, and it’s actually an ambidextrous safety, you have on the other side too. The lever on this side, on the right side, is a little shorter than the one on the left. The safety is very positive, very tactile, very nice indeed, and obviously we’re holding back a skeletonized trigger, like here, it does have some nice serrations on the back of the trigger, so you get a nice grip on that if you’re cocking the hammer back, so very nice indeed.
We also do have a skeletonized trigger and it is adjustable, this has been preset by the factory, though, and it doesn’t need to be altered, unless you would like to, but it’s pretty much set exactly how it has to be. The trigger on it is absolutely beautiful, it is a 4-pound trigger. Now, this is designed as a duty gun, so you definitely don’t want to have too light of a trigger. You’ve got a little bit of take-up, very, very, very nice break indeed, and then for reset a little bit of let out, I mean a little bit. Very, positive and tactile, the trigger is absolutely phenomenal on this gun, it is very, very nice.
Now, moving along, this is your takedown lever and your slide lock like catch, we’ll go over that in a second. Moving up to your slide, we have some very nice serrations on the front and back, so, you know, with their RMR in the back here it might be a little bit hard to get hold of that, so you can easily get to the pinch method, however you like to check, but you can get, definitely get a nice feel on that.
Now, while we’re doing that just reminds me to tell you how smooth that slide is, it’s like on ball bearings, absolutely beautiful, very, very nice. Now, the RMR obviously does not come with it, this is an optics ready gun and there’s a non-optics version if you wish, so it will save you a couple hundred dollars.
Now, you do have to buy the plate, the plate does not come with the gun and these plates will cost you about 160$, this is from Dawson Precision, and they have different versions of the plate, depending on what optic you like to run on there. On the plate it does come with a rear sight attached, so when you take off the rear plate to put on the RMR, the rear plate actually has a rear sight on it, so when you take that off and then you put this on you don’t lose the rear sight, iron sight, which is very nice, and a really nice thing is, it actually co-witnesses with this RMR in here, so if the RMR goes down for some reason I can still use my iron sight, very nice.
Front sight is a fiber optic, I do like to run night sights, high-vis night sights and things like that on there, easy change, if I don’t, you know, if I wish to, and then the pack, it does come with some different colors for your fiber optic, if you want to change it from green to red or black or whatever you would like to do, there’s a couple different options in the pack that comes with the gun.
Moving down to the rail, we do have a 1913 pic-rail, just as the one slot in there, and on here we have my SureFire Vampire light on like so. So, the slide is stainless steel and so is the actual lower with the polymer grips bringing in this gun in a weight of approximately 33 ounces, not the lightest gun on the wall, but it definitely, you can feel a little bit of weight, but it just feels perfect to me, the balance of the gun and the weight of the gun feels fantastic, so very nice indeed.

Now, to take this gun down, obviously make sure we are empty, which we are, on the slide there is two notches, there’s one for your slide lock, slide release, and then there’s another little one just a little further back, so you’re gonna pull that back to line up at the lever, and on the other side you’re just gonna push through on the pin and you’ll simply just slide out that lever, slide goes forward like so and we have it taken apart. The fit and finish inside this gun is exquisite, absolutely beautiful craftsmanship, like super, super nice craftsmanship.
Ok, and right here we have a Dawson Tool-Less guide rod, now, you take this out, you’re going to push up, and then at the top here you’re just gonna push like so, and it locks and you can take it out and you can see here when you push that down, pushes that up and it locks it in place, and that is how you take out your guide rod, really cool system, I really do like that, and then you can go ahead and slide barrel out.

This is a stainless steel barrel, it’s a bull barrel, you can see how thick it is there. Giving a little more weight and it helps, again, with the recoil on the 9mill, and, again, looking inside here, the fit and finish is just absolutely perfect, super, super nice. Obviously, just go back in reverse, put it back together.
How was the shooting?
The shooting is absolutely fantastic, one of the best guns I have ever shot, the recoil is so minimal, it’s easy to get back on target, the trigger, you can get up really fast with this trigger, for mag dumps or, you know, just quick shots the trigger is because it’s got that really nice, short, crisp, light pull, and then a short reset, just makes us come and run fast, very, very nice indeed. Accuracy is absolutely awesome, I have a shot while rolling, that was from 25 yards, just an incredible, incredible gun to shoot.
Now, what would I say are the negatives, well, there’s not really any negatives to say, something you have to be aware of is maybe just a training issue, you need to be aware of is the slide lock, slide release.
Now, typically, when with my other pistols, if I just, you know, my thumb can reach the mag release, I cannot reach it because, obviously, that’s it right here, my thumb is here, now, granted, I have smaller size hands, but you would need some pretty dang long thumbs to hit that. So, typically, what you would need to do is when you load the mag and you bring your other hand up, this is my left hand to grip, and I would use my left thumb to let that slide go like that.
So, it's more of a kind of a training issue, I wouldn’t say it a negative, it would just be a training issue with the gun or you can just slingshot, I mean, again, I haven’t had an issue with it, it’s just something to be aware of that, that might be a training issue that you would need to kind of think about.
Now, I would probably say the cost is a negative, although I feel like you’re absolutely getting your money’s worth, but when I realize when people say the cost of this gun, they’re gonna flinch at it, but don’t let it once, if you ever shoot one of these you will realize real quickly why this is such an expensive gun, and I’m talking about the price, this is how to get the best price on this firearm.
