Hey, everybody, welcome back to gun.deals. Today on the table we have a SIG P229 Legion and single action only. Let’s get this review started.
All right, folks, it comes in this nice little hard case, let’s put it down, open up and see what you get with it. You kind of get some stickers obviously which is little crumpled, Legion stickers, some more Legion stickers, it comes with a user menu, your gun lock and so on. It comes with three metal magazines. It’s nice it comes with three because they are kind of expensive, you’re looking about 40 to 50 bucks for these mags and it comes with three of them, the other one is in here. And then we have the pistol right here. Now, with the Legion you can send off, once you get a gun you can register it and then you can get a free soft case for your pistol and a little challenge coin, if you’re into that kind of thing.
Let’s just start off with the color and the coating on the Legion. When these originally came out, they actually PVD coated and it was wearing really fast and people weren’t happy with it understandably, these aren’t cheap guns, and what they did was actually cera-coating them and I think it was 2019 which was a good call because the circle is about 40 times more durable than PVD.
What I’m gonna do is I’m gonna put this down on the table, change the camera angle so you guys get a nice close-up of this gun and I’ll be right back with you.
Grip
Let’s go ahead and I’ll go over this P229 here. We’ll start off just kind of over the grip and the grip angle and things like that. So, obviously it does have these G10 Legion branded grips, a texturing on these grips are really, really nice. You can get a very nice purchase on the gun, it feels very, very comfortable in hand, my hands are about a size medium but this gun feels very, very comfortable. The ergonomics of this gun is very nice. So, as I say you do have that stippling all the way around, you can see you got some texturing on the frame also obviously on the grips and all the way around, the back like so.
Moving up, now you’ll notice we do have an undercut right here also so you can get a nice high purchase on the gun and you have a nice beaver tail right here also.
Mag Release
Moving up obviously this is your mag release and it is obviously textured as you can see like so and it’s very easy to get, I said I have a medium-sized hands and I can actuate the button with no problems.
Slide Lock
Moving up we have the slide lock, slide lock release right here and because this is a single action only not the double version because there’s two versions of this one, single action only and double action depends on your preference obviously.
External Safety
I wanted to get a single action only for this one and that’s what we have and because of a single action we have the external safety and it is ambidextrous. It is the single action only version and as I said there is a double action-single action and a single action only which obviously this one is because it’s not double action we do have the external safety up here and it is ambidextrous which is really nice. It sits pretty well and you can get, so if you’re drawing up to present, it’s when, you know, I like to show us to shoot like that so I’m actually putting my thumb on that safety to push it down and I actually rest on the gun like so and it comes a nice little ledge for me to keep the gun under control so that is your safety right there. Obviously this is a hammer-fire gun not striker-fire obviously with the hammer back here like so.
X-Ray Sights
On top we do have some awesome X-ray sights. SIG has put these on a lot of their guns now. I really like them, that green dot is a very nice to pick up and these are night sights so very nice indeed, excellent sights.
Trigger
Moving along the trigger, you’ll notice if you look at the double action, trigger, it is curved where this one is more of a straight trigger and it does have the SRT short reset trigger right here. The trigger comes in a very nice 4-pound trigger. I have checked it many times and so it’s an average about 4 pounds so here’s the trigger, you’ve got a little bit of take up like you can see right here so you take up and you hit the wall and just when you hit the wall it’s just a millimeter to go after you hit the wall so let’s do that and then you have a very nice clean crisp break and then the reset, very short very tactile and audible, it’s a great trigger, overall a very, very nice trigger, I do like that trigger a lot. And then we have obviously a trigger guard, which does have some more stippling over here, kind of stippling and on the end of the trigger guard right here. We do have a 1913 pick rail on the bottom here so you can attach whatever light you want. We have a SureFire light here, this is your SureFire vampire and you can just put that on and tighten it down so it fits all your common type lights, it’s not proprietary rail or anything like that.

On the slide we do have serrations on the front and back and the barrel in here is a 3.9-inch cold-hammer forged barrel so very nice. Ok, so what we’re gonna do is we’re going to show you how to take this gun down real fast and obviously make sure you are clear which we are, you’re gonna pull this slide back, push the lock-up, push the lever down, let’s pull the slide off like so. I’ve been shooting this gun, I haven’t cleaned it so it’s a little dirty but the inside is impeccable as you would expect from a gun of this price and we’ll cover that in that just a little bit and then we have the guide rod and spring, this is a metal guide rod and we do have, as I say, cold-hammer forged barrel here. All right, let me put this back together.
Let’s go over shooting the gun, it’s a beautiful gun to shoot, you know, it’s a little heavier because it does have that kind of metal frame and so but the balance feels very, very nice, very controllable when you shoot, you know, just a beautiful overall experience with this gun. Within the first 100 rounds of actually firing this gun I, you know, I knew I wasn’t gonna give this gun up, I knew it was a keeper, you know, I review a lot of guns that come through and, you know, most of the time I’ll get them, I’ll review them, move them on but this one again within hundred rounds I knew it wasn’t going anywhere, that 100% I was gonna keep this gun, it’s just an amazing firearm.
