Beretta APX 1 - The Cheapest Duty Gun on The Market?
You all have heard that there's no such thing as a stupid question, right? Wrong! Here's a perfect example of a stupid question: How many of you like guns at insane crazy stupid prices? Right? I'm going to get to it in a bit, I've got an email called crazy stupid deals, but, anyway I find crazy stupid deals, and something that I kept finding and seeing over and over and over was a little tiny conceal carry 9mm, it looked great at a crazy stupid price and I had to try it.
How many of you have heard of Beretta? Yeah, okay, there's another kind of stupid question. But do we usually associate Beretta with super cheap, crazy stupid cheap deals? No. So when I kept seeing the APX, the A1 conceal in 9 mm, oh, yeah, I had to try this, so we've got it. This is their smallest that I'm aware of, concealable, 9mm, semi-auto. Let's just see what we can do with this.

This is all the different ammo that we're going to test in this review!
I'm Drew Case from Beyond Seclusion bringing the reviews directly here to gun. deals. Anyway, back to the review, like I said I had been seeing this and sending it out in my email blast for a long time with a rebate, I saw this come in as low as 179, that's right, a Beretta, a 9mm, for 179, typically I'm seeing it for 199, with the rebate. Anyway, I had to see what this is about. Anyway, before I get ahead of myself, check out the specs and tech, let's see everything there is about this that we want to know, and then let's start having some fun.

We got the APX A1 Carry, the quick-out-of-the-box, and like a lot of them it's covering oil, let's clean this off. In the box we've got our lock and instruction manual and one mag, and that's it. This is the extended mag, I would really like to see it come with two, and I say this about every gun company that I get that only comes, especially the pistols that come with one mag, I would like to see two, but especially with this one I would like to see the small mag since this is a really small gun for conceal carry, the six round that basically doesn't give the bulk on the handle here.
The up close we've got forward and rear serrations, and these are really aggressive, guys, these are comfortable, I really do like those. The slide release is not ambidextrous, sorry guys, this is not ambidextrous, we'll have to look in the directions to see if we can reverse the mag release. On the front sights we have metal, this is not adjustable that I can see for anything, for windage or elevation, so they are fixed sights.
The trigger pull on this, it's pretty mushy, it's got long travel, long reset. I mean it's not a match grade trigger, but it'll do. I'm pretty sure this is the eight-round mag, and like I said I'm going to have actually a six-round mag coming.
The texturing and the laser etching, it's got it in the places we like, for your finger or if you're holding it over here or your thumb, it's very comfortable. It is really aggressive here on the front and on the back. Without gloves, doing a 1,000, 2,000 round torture test, yeah, I'm wondering if that might you know get a little bit uncomfortable over time, but this isn't a go to the range and mag dump all day long, this isn't a target pistol, okay, this is conceal carry in which case I think this is a good thing, better to have that tight grip because of its intended purpose.
This one does come optics ready so we've got the plate here, and we will, at some point here, get optic on there. Takedown is really simple, actually very similar to the Bretta 92, we just pull that down, trigger pulls comes off, barrel comes out like everything else, put this back on, slide it up, flip that up, and you're good to go.
Let's just see what we have for trigger pull on this!
We got about an 8-pound pull. It's kind of hard with the angle on this trigger because if I do it up here it doesn't engage the safety. For most that is not going to be an issue at all, not for a conceal carry. As far as accuracy and reaching out to 200 yards and some of the stuff that I like to do, that trigger could make some of that hard. I want to do a special call out to GunMag Warehouse for providing these mags, really appreciate that, these were hard to get a hold of, Bretta actually didn't have these in stock, they can be kind of hard to get a hold of, but, hey, GunMag Warehouse had them. The sixth-round mag I really wanted to get in there as well.
If you follow me you know that as soon as I get a gun, the first thing I like to do is just take it straight out of the box without doing anything, and especially a pistol like a small concealed carry, and I want to see how far I can go, I want to see if I can just take this out of the box and bang at 25 and 50 yards, and I know, guys, you're thinking “Why would you do that with a concealed carry if you're using this for self-defense at 25 or 50 yards?” Guys, you have legal problems! It is meant for over here, close quarters short distances, but if I can hit down there, especially taking it straight out of the box without a red dot or anything like that, man, I ought to be able to hit it up close, if not, again, I've got bigger problems.
Anyway, straight out-of-the-box, let's see what we can do at the distance!
Nice! It's only if I'm trying to go fast, but, man, I mean we've got a short barrel here, we don't have a huge sight radius.
I wanted to show you, in all of my reviews, when you're sort of looking down the gun barrel I've got the camera in between my arms and I have to angle myself sort of under it so that I can see.
I think what I might do is I might put a little sight paint on here, I think that might help. Back here where it's kind of darker it'll get me to be able to target acquisition quicker. Another thing I like to do is one-handed shooting and one-handed shooting at distance because that's going to show how controllable the gun is, it's also going to show a lot about the trigger and the sights and everything else. Let's just see how we do here.
Little bit better! Guys, this really does shoot nice, it feels great in the hand, that texturing is aggressive, but I like it, you want that on this, but, man, it's just comfortable shooting.
I got some sight paint on here and I think that really helps. You can find this on my Amazon page, actually if you're interested, but for me it makes all the difference. Let's see if it actually pays off.
This is its intended purpose, but even then it's overkill because we're still 30 feet away, but the whole idea is to get as many rounds on target fast to eliminate the threat, and I'd say we just did that.
I did just notice that we don't have a rail. That would be one suggestion, always have at least a one-slot rail for those that want to have a little light or laser.
The unthinkable happens, I don't have use of my left arm!
Still good to go!
Nice!
Let's try some real distance here!
Nice! Not bad with iron sights!
The plate just arrived yesterday, in the mail, and that's awesome. For what it is I really would suggest that the plates just come with it. Some gun companies don't include the plates and others include all the plates, I guess I would air on the side of including all the plates, it just really is nice that you don't have to then go back and order something.
I finally got the optic that I needed! A special thanks to Burris for providing the Fastfire 4, this is an awesome pistol optic, I love this, and also special thanks to Jacob for making this happen, I cannot wait guys to get out and see what we can do with a red dot, see how far we can go, back in business.

We're getting the Burris zeroed. I showed you the trigger, it is long, it's mushy, it's gritty. We are at 25 rather than the usual 50 because I don't think we're really going to get very good groups, but here at 25…
That's not bad! There's three shots, I'm happy with that!
Nice! Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!
We're back here at the CQB range and we're going to do a 500-round torture test with this. Special thanks to Natchez for providing all of this ammo, and we wouldn't have been able to do it uh without their help. Also special thanks again to GunMag Warehouse. Anyway, guys, we've got the optic on, it's zeroed, let's have some fun.
I wondered why I wasn't hitting anything!
Talked about the aggressive grip on this, I'm kind of getting sore, maybe kind of some blisters starting here, but we're about 500 rounds with this, this really wasn't designed for that. In the short term this is awesome, at the range, doing a torture test, is torture on your hands.
Guys, we are at 500 rounds, we have tested all of this and not had one single failure to feed, failure to extract, light primer strike, jam, nothing of any kind with all of that, you decide what you think.
There you go, guys, you know it is what it is, I hope you found this helpful. Until next time on gun. deals, happy shooting, remember educate our young people to shooting and gun safety, and every time we're on the range, that makes you and me ambassadors for the Second Amendment, so be a good Ambassador, be a safe and responsible gun owner.
