This isn't an M4 type barrel, as it has no grenade launcher cutout. It is a carbine length gas system, though, if that's what you are referring to. However, that is actually a long gas system for 300blk, as many have a pistol length system, due to the fact that the larger bore and quicker powders commonly used in 300 BLK don't function as well in the longer systems, because pressure drops off much more rapidly than 223/556. Also, on the actual Windham site, it says this has a medium profile, which is basically .750 from chamber taper to muzzle.
You are right it is not M4. But it is not medium profile. You are wrong there. This is slimmed kind of Government profile barrel. Check their website and go to 300 blackout parts. You will see their "medium" profile definition is what other people call Government profile but slightly thinner. I called their customer support and confirmed that it is indeed thinner than Government profile that they call for some reason "medium" profile. Gas block is 0.75inch. From chamber to gas block it is below 0.75inch, and after gas block to muzzle is also below 0.75inch.
Also, if you open your gas port a bit you can use 300 BLK subsonic ammunition without issue. For supersonic ammo 5.56 gas port works just fine. And if you want more velocity you can use 21 inch 300 blackout barrel. After 21 inch it is point of diminishing return and your velocity gain will be very small. Been there done that.
Still WW makes quality rifles.
I am looking for 300 blackout rifle. If this rifle had HBAR I would buy it in heart beat. I already have WW HBC in 5.56 and it is exceptionally accurate rifle. They make good products but M4 type barrel on 300 blackout just does not make much sense to me. Even though the ad says heavy profile it is standard government profile.
