I got this and the EZ both in 30SC at the same time on the deals at GAG. The Shield is by far the better feeling of the two in every way except the awful trigger. Quite possibly the worst trigger to come on a gun I've ever bought. Feels like you are dragging it across 3 feet of 40 grit emery cloth until it breaks. No clean break because the grit getting there is so rough. The EZ is just the opposite where the gun feels odd in the hand with the thin grip and longer slide, but it has one of the best factory triggers I've ever ran across. Smooth as glass, fairly short and crisp break. If only the Shield had the EZ trigger and you'd have a winner all around.

Don’t buy this garbage.

Considering police have a hit ratio of about 30% in real life shootings, I think its ridiculous that average guys shrug off and additional 3 rounds like its no big deal. I carry this every day. For $260ish its a steal!! Guys talking about how expensive the ammo is, like they ever take their carry gun to the range and shoot it.

FYI, it's been this price for 6+ months. Source: Me. I'm waiting to jump on it but trying to find a reason to have yet another caliber.

+3 rounds, and its just as affective as 9mm. I don't care what youtubers say, it shoots just like a 9 it hits like a 9 and its just as good as a 9 but I get 3 more rounds. In the Florida heat, the last thing I want to do is carry a second mag.

The second mag is important, more for accidently dropping or breaking a floorplate from the first mag.
Both are things I've had happen during matches and range time, so could imagine easy to happen in an emergency.

Always sad since I cannot buy due to 15 Rd limit in my state. Have the EZ version and one of my finest to shoot.

Shield Plus 9mm bundles available for $369 (non OR) and $416 (OR) with six mags of 10 and 13 Rds. No taxes on one, free shipping on the other. No hassle with finding mags…..at least right away.

There's no 10rd mags available for commie states...

Roofer is correct. S&W makes 10rd'ers for 30SC. Gunmagwarehouse, Gunplace, Magshack, etc. Lots of options at about $30. I wouldn't take a Promag for free though. Unfortunately GAG won't substitute mags for you. I'm trying to convince myself I don't need another caliber, but I seemingly have every other one so I think I'll take this on as another experiment.

This round performs well in ballistic gel. The speed of the round is the key.

Cant find it. Could you pls procide 1 link for OEM 10rd mags for this pistol? Thanks!

I'm sorry my friend! I'm very much mistaken! I checked the other links too quickly and failed to notice the %!@$ EZ moniker. Forgive me for that. I don't think I found any S&W mag less than 13. Does S&W make a 10rd 9mm Shield Plus that will work? I've done lots of mag fab with obsolete ish guns but haven't experimented with this yet. Maybe the sketchy Promag is the only option after all.......

Like the single stack factory mag for the EZ, that sketchy single stack Promag for the EZ also wouldn't work with the Plus. S&W does make a 10rd mag for the 9mm Shield Plus (same mag fits the Equalizer): https://gun.deals/search/apachesolr_search/022188886818...
I haven't read or heard of anyone trying to tweak one to work with 30SC. Magblocks are available for the two mags the pistol ships with.

Thank you. I don't have 'em in hand, but web info lists the 30SC mag at 1.3in wide. The 9mm shows .095in wide. Measurements are too extreme in my opinion. While I personally could fab something up out of the tubes and grip frame to work, the work would be extensive and certainly less than ideal for a reliable defensive carry gun. I doubt the general public would take on the project, and since the cartridge seems to be waning, and its primary benefit seemed to be higher round count, I don't see S&W tooling up a 10 rounder in the future. A mind more creative than mine needs to step in, or buyers disregard this cartridge for restricted States. An 8 round cylinder in a revolver may be cool though.....ha! Thanks for the input.

Sounds like the magblocks would be a viable option. And though it's a different platform, the EZ that comes with 10rd compliant mags might be the least hassle-free option. If being able to mount an optic is a must for a buyer they could have the EZ slide milled to accept an optic or (though not ideal) purchase this GP optic mount that attaches in the dovetail of the rear sight:
https://gallowayprecision.com/optic-mount-plate-for-smith-and-wesson-m-and-p-9-shield-ez-pistols...
Folks interested in the OR Shield Plus 9mm might consider taking a look at the newer fairly recently released M&P® SHIELD X™. It's available with 10 rd compliant mags. If sales of the Plus chambered in 30SC were high enough I wouldn't be surprised if they introduced a 30SC version of the X at some point. - https://www.smith-wesson.com/products/shield-x...
*EDIT* - You make a very good point about the primary benefit of the 30SC seeming to be higher round count. There really isn't much, or any, benefit for commie compliant anti-2A states.

You might be able to get the Shield Plus to fire and cycle with those single-stack Shield EZ mags, but it would be awkward and impractical.

Dead (already) cartridge. The new 45 GAP.....

3 votes

While Glock no longer produces a 45 GAP there is enough guns out there to produce ammo. I believe S&W still produce the SC so not dead.

Waning and niche, yes but not dead and both fun to shoot.

I don't have one, but a quick look at ammoseek.com revealed lots of ammo available for the 30SC .......as well as the GAP. Less selection, more money than some others, but doesn't look dead.

Just picked this up for $200 after rebate compared to OR shield pluss 9mm that would be around $375. Installed MagGuts into the 13rd flush fit and I'm getting 17+1. Defense ammo is the same price as 9mm and I'm paying $17 a box for 50 rounds of target ammo which to me isn't bad. I don't have a stockpile of 9mm and this was a cheap and good quality edc for me I strongly recommend. I don't think ammo will get scarce and if it does it will be at least 5 years down the road. Worst case scenario I swap the slide/barrel from shield 9mm or shield x and train with 9mm.

I like it but the downside is finding brass. If starline starts up 30sc production it could last a good amount of time. Hornaday makes some good quality .312 bullets and berrys makes copper plated 100gr .312 for plinking.
I'm enjoying it so far. In the summer when its too hot to carry an extra mag and larger holster, I can carry 3 more rounds in the firearm and not wear a large sidecar style holster. If you hate it, I wouldn't buy it or even bother commenting. Plenty of guns in the sea.

No one wants the 30 Super Carry based on this price

I grabbed one. Defense ammo is about the same cost as 9mm. It's a great gun.

wrong. I know 3 people, including myself that just picked up one of these at this price. Plus you can find 50 round boxes of fmj online for $16-17 a box. About the price of 45 acp.
It's a great round and a blast to shoot. Love it.

You can also buy a 9mm slide/barrel that works on this frame if needed.

If you look at the ballistic gel videos, 30SC eats 9mm for lunch.I think it's due to the increased muzzle velocity of the round. Unfortunately it didn't take off.

No one is producing any guns with the round anymore.

It penetrates a little better but the wound channel looks nearly identical. It doesn't eat the 9mm for lunch, it performs slightly better, and it's twice the price. Also, you're very limited in choices of guns, and it's basically non-existent in stores, which means buying it online and paying shipping.

You get a better discount buying online. Shop around and shipping is free.

Most local stores jack the price up.

Rounds are funny like that. People are too stubborn to adapt to change. The 30 super carry had some good benefits in micro pistols.

it's a great round. The people discounting this round's extra capacity are the same people who'll say they carry 9mm over 45 because of extra capacity

If you watch Paul Harrell videos, he'll tell you according to FBI data, most incidents are "resolved" in 6 rounds or less. That said, I prefer 40 cal over all others. Stopping power from 180 grains is incredible. That said, due to the weight of it all, my EDC is 9mm with Novx 65 gr. MUCH lighter on the hip and the shape of the projectile doesn't care about your leather chaps.

10mm failed once from its own demerits. When the meme dies, it'll fail again.
