True. Typically several thousand rounds are needed before armory work in all of these in my experience. Factory recommendations are in the thousands as well. Longevity differences in replaceable wear parts between Gen1/2/3 to Gen4/5 in these calibers is possible. Have you personally seen any catastrophic frame failures ? Thanks for the input.
No personal experience with frame failures. But there are a lot of used .40S&W LEO pistols on the market. I've read from several sources that the armories have far more frequent issues with them than 9mm or .45s, and that is one of the reasons departments are going back to 9mm. I also recall, when 10mm first came out, there were a lot of problems with frames and other part failures from the higher pressure. Even though I'm sure the top manufacturers have made improvements for reliability, I'm also sure that higher pressure calibers will still wear parts out quicker.
Thanks for your response. I'll agree that the recoil impulse varies due to projectile weight and velocity, and differences in models, with no concern for operator. I've never seen a Glock frame failure that wasn't caused by a malfunctioning cartridge (other than officers tightening their WML's too tightly to the rail). The scheduled parts replacement is 15k for all springs regardless of Gen, and 3-5K for strikers in various Gens. Extractors are most abused and replaced. Actually the SAAMI pressure for 9 and 40 are identical...the 10mm is 2,500 higher. The slides and frames of 9/40 are smaller than 45/10 so don't compare well. As for "departments" switching to 9 from anything else, my opinion is this has far more to do with competency and politics than efficacy.
Rumors: I'm a big fan of 40S&W. I shoot 165 grain flat points for a little bit extra "knock down" power compared to a 9MM. The only failure I have experienced is Me shooting in 100 degree weather...lol !
yep....a positive for the 40 is its ability to reliably shoot a variety of 105-200's for whatever task......and when in doubt always blame the weather!
Right now $459! hurry! a good deal if you want to get your hands on a quality 10mm
yep, this is a good deal, and in lovely Garden of Eden green
10mm is very attractive, but don't expect any .40S&W or 10mm pistol to last as long as a comparable .45 model - even a Glock.
That increased pressure takes a toll. However, this 10mm Glock would serve well in bear country, and $459 is a very good deal!
