Recently learned that these consumer-grade digital NV scopes that absolutely require IR illumination may *finally* have a use case despite the higher co$t of analogue NV! First off, 850nm isn't IR, it's deep red, and quite visible to anyone [even my ancient eyes!] looking at it. You can get 950nm lights/filters, but that's still glaringly obvious to anyone w/ analogue NV tubes. Get this: once you get down around the 1500nm region of the IR spectrum, analogue tubes no longer can pick up your beacon, so *you* can be the one-eyed man in the land of the blind! Or at least, a one-eyed man in the land of people w/ glasses? [The metaphor is breaking down somewhere, I just can't spot it!
