Got to try mine last week. Nothing special. seemed a little lighter load then others, lighter recoil that might help with grouping? Okay for the price, clean ammo.
I shot these along with Pmc bronze and wolf gold, surprisingly wolf gold got the closest group.
This ammo is capable of exceptional accuracy out of the right rifle. My Colt Competition Pro CRP-18 (1/8 RH 18" wylde barrel is capable of sub 1/4" groups @100yds if everything is right. I compare all 55gr loads to this Norma for accuracy.
One more thing, on the side of the box it says Match Quality. BS, shoots like regular brass.
Got my package, all boxes were damaged and the ammo looks tarnished don't expect it looks shiny as the picture above. Haven't shot them yet.
Good ammo. I shot this and IMI at the range last week and this consistently gave me 2-3 inch groups at 100 yards, as opposed to 4-5 inch groups with the IMI. I was pretty surprised by the results. I'd recommend this ammo, at this price, all day long.
Lickem: think the lowest price I seen was around $.31 free shipping. So it's about $15 cheaper for 300 rounds. $110 vs $95
Stonehenge: nice little review and I am taking your words for it to try out a few boxes since my $20 off will be expired tomorrow. I got an Anderson 24" bull barrel upper recently, so its similar to the set up you got. How you like it so far and what kind of grouping at 100 yards?
When this stuff is on sale, i back up the truck as far as my bank account will let me. No it's not match ammo, but it's real nice to hit what your aiming at when plinking. I did an extended afternoon test over the summer vs. AE556, AE223, IMI 556, PMC 223, X-TAC and GECO 223 (all 55 gr) with both my Franklin HSC (16" light contour) and Anderson Predator (24" bull barrel) and 10 shot groups at 100 yds consistently beat the others handily. Could be that this stuff is less temperature sensitive since I didn't wait long between shots. Not the hottest ammo, but what good is 100-200 feet per second when you miss? It is also very clean.
At this price with free shipping, try a few boxes. Maybe your gun(s) will like it as well as mine.
Nice review. Given the Cabela's price fluctuations, what is the cheapest you have seen this for at Cabela's? Less than it is now, or is this rock bottom? Your legit test now has me intrigued on this ammo.
I've shot this ammo before as well as their Tac-22 and it is some great quality ammo!
It is comparable to American Eagle AR223 and 5.56mm. I tested all of them at my local range at 200yds, 200m and 300yds. I just built my target stand and will push it to 300m next time.
Only difference I could notice is that Freedom drops more at 300yds (probably less and cheaper powder). But accuracy is comparable between the three.
Nicil: yup I wasn't expect that to be a match ammo but more likely to compare it with American eagle, Remington brass etc. it certainly indirectly implied that this close to match ammo but it's not.
I am still waiting for my cabelas gift cards, once I got them and if they are still at this price, will grab some just heck.
Accuracy wise anything is better than Wolf. I bought few boxes of Norma TAC and it is comparable to freedom ammunition re-manufactured .223 in accuracy. The description is misleading (false advertising). This is NOT match ammo or target ammo ("Specifically designed for the competitive shooter, the Norma-USA Tac & Match Rifle Ammo performs with unmatched accuracy on and off the range"). This is just regular bulk ammo that can do 3 inch at 100 meters=109 yards (Spikes tactical with velocity trigger and 16 inch government profile barrel). The same rifle with match ammo holds slightly more that 1 inch at 100 meters.
The ammo is clean.
How does this thing work compared to Wolf, anyone?
Note these are on clearance. Most other stores online don't have this in stock anymore. I think Norma USA is discontinuing the line. Seems Cabela's is trying to clean out their inventory because they've been overpriced north of $8 per 20bx for a while. So this might be your last chance at them, if you're interested. I paid $5.49 per 20bx.
That said, I saw this today in store before I saw the deal listing here and picked up 5 boxes from 5 different lots. Youtube reviews indicate a few generally good performance at this price range. Should make for an interesting consistency test at the range next week.
