Appreciate the feedback about the desert. Moving to one soon temporarily (if you know what I mean).
I think the design looks kinda stupid as well but in researching it the were trying to create a more open field of view. An eotech view is a lil obstructed from behind the sight as compared to an micro or tube style rds.
What has been your experience using this setup in person Ragnar?
This mount typically runs about $70, does cowitness with irons.
Its a rather stupid design, as the side wings only extend to about the top of the sight, and don't go over the top. Also, it is roughly 3 or 4 times the weight of the actual sight.
Another note: while I have many fastfires, even at their brightest setting, they are a little harder to pick up than most of my other red dots when training in the desert during a bright day. Generally doable, but because of this, I am a little slower on target.
On a side note jet had the 3x for around 215 after the triple 15 discount. I picked up a similar mounted the one pictures here from Amazon as well. I paid $55 as they had a "like new" version which typically means box damaged worst case scenario. Gonna mount the FF3 on my CZ scorpion sbr...
I got the 5x from jet for 245 so I would go that route before buying this.
Not that great of a deal. They have the "buy a Burris 3x or 5x prism scope and get the FFIII by mail free." rebate going on. True it doesn't have the AR riser, but I still got both for 246 bucks shipped.
Excellent set up for light weight AR, I have this with troy flip ups and really like this set up.
Bought it a month ago without the fancy mount
Was still a great deal, might get another but EOTECH just worth 2 of em

Yes, I read the same thing about keeping the protector minimum, but I would much rather have it loop across and fully protect the sight, as they are fragile compared to most battle sights. I would prefer full protection over a tiny bit less visibility.
They are great for indoors, low light, and smaller/lightweight/unconventional weapons. I have a few on shotguns, an 870, 500 shockwave (I made it, it's a 500, not 590), a vepr 12, catamount fury bullpupped, and some other random guns. They hold up to shock well, but I doubt they would survive a good bash.
I got this mount for a lightweight ar build (5.5 lbs, 6.1 lbs with light, laser, aluminum irons, foregrip, and red dot) as this sight is one of the lightest you can get, but that's another downside to this mount, as it kind of eliminates that advantage.
I chose this sight for my mini red dot option because it is one of the cheapest with a lifetime, no bullshit warranty.
I like it, but no longer use it on my ars, as it slowed me down during training when compared to an eotech, and what I almost exclusively use on my non-magnified ars, the vortex spitfire, and the spitfire reticle is etched, $150-$200, same warranty, and a little tougher. So I switched it back to that.
