How do you identify fakes? Are there obvious differences with the authentic item?
'Tis an easy search on the web/youtube for how to spot fakes, but the simplest highlights are:
1- Should say "MBUS" molded into the side
2- Magpul logo on the top/front should be recessed, not raised
Newer fakes have figured out the first two, so also look for:
3- Flathead bolt to mount to rail, not hex-head
4- Should be clean of "flashing" (mold marks) and free of wiggle/off-kilter parts
Another way to tell is to compare to any existing sights you already have... or a friend has. Not every living person happens to have them, but I have four Gen2 rear sights as a basis of comparison, so I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to spot a fake. Magpul makes quality gear so if you get one and you just have that voice in the back of your head saying "this feels/looks like a piece of s***", you might want to look at it more closely and/or compare with a known real one.
I am not sure if Magpul still makes the training versions of these (PTS, maybe?) But the are used for airsoft, and are very flexible...the material they are made of is not rigid...you can easily flex and twist them.
I do not know if the ones listed in this add are PTS, or the real deal...but if you can easily flex them, you have bought the toy version.
Awesome! I just tried to buy a couple of used ones locally, and the guys around here wanted $45 for each of their used Magpul rear sights. Snagged the two I needed.
too many reports of verified purchase fakes. If something's too good to be true, then... At $38.15 is basically wholesale. Plus consider the seller pays for the shipping ($2.50, pays amazon to fill the order, pays amazon to process the card, pays amazon a commission) The fees typically add up to about 20% in my experience. Something smells fishy.
