This is the "Classic" model. Some folks would likely be willing to sacrifice some of the concealability of the Micro for the higher round count and the ability to get a better purchase on the grip that the CDS9 offers over the Micro. If you want one that is Optic Ready with a rail get the "CDS9 (OR)(RL)" model:

I think Kimber did good by offering this pistol in different configurations. Having choices is a good thing. Different strokes for different folks.
Without the rail or mos slot, why not just get a micro? makes no sense.
