You can get a Howa 1500 in 6.5 Grendel complete with stock for about $75 more. According to a sootch00 review from years ago, the rifle is bedded such that it is free floated for accuracy. That is something to think about if you are going to stock and bed it yourself.
The idea is interesting. The quality seems fine. The only catch is that 6.5 grendel is a more applicable AR15 cartridge plus the lack of aftermarket support for the Howa versus the worlds most popular modern rifle.
Last October I seriously considered buying one of these, but the limited stock, and magazine options killed that idea in a hurry. It appears the only magazine available is the 5rd Howa Mini, at $40+, and I could not find any conversion kits that would allow ASICS, or AR 15 magazines to be used. The stock options are equally bleak. So far, none of the major stock makers that do pillar, or block bedding in their stocks have shown any interest. That leaves only about three options, a Howa factory walnut, a $450+ chassis from Brownells, or one of the un-bedded options from Boyds. With that knowledge, I decided my best option was to build a AR 15 upper in 6.5 Grendel.
Considered and disregarded for the same reasons. Built a 12.5in AR hog gun in Gren instead.
Grabbed one of these today. Can't wait to get it!
Hmm, that's rather odd, a quick search on Google reveals that MDT, Boyd's, HTI, Trybe, WOOX, JTAC, MacMillan, Bell & Carlson and Hogue all make aftermarket stocks and/or chassis for this action. Jefferson Outdoor, DIP and MDT sells metal floorplates and metal mags. CZ metal mags can also be utilized.
