It's a new model and I don't get it either. But some people will pay an extra $75 for a 3" shorter barrel. The carbine barrel is 17.5" vs the pistol's 14.5".
One can purchase a much better weapon for the money. With AR prices being so low, is suggest getting an AR type weapon over these. Not that these are "bad" per say, it's just they are very cheaply made with the cheapest components available. Spend a few more dollars and get an all metal rifle or pistol.
The point of this particular Hi-Point model is you are getting a .45 ACP PCC for a budget price. And, it may be ugly to some folks, but it will run reliably with a lifetime warranty from a US manufacturer. The next affordable option in .45 ACP would be the Extar EP45 at $500. If you are looking for a 9mm model though, I agree. You can find AR type 9mms for about the same price.
Personally I don't see the point of a 15" "pistol" which doesn't fold. Unless it gets around some super restrictive state most people would rather a the 17" rifle model for $75 less (depending on model) vs this $350 "pistol" that is an 2" shorter but infinity less comfortable to shoot.
