Its lightweight design reliability and ease of use make it popular among law enforcement. Improved features include an ambidextrous slide stop nDLC finish on the barrel and slide a flared magazine well and the reintroduction of the half-moon shaped cutout on the front bottom of the grip. The magazines for the G17 Gen 5 were also redesigned to feature a frontward lip for easier extraction.
