Description

The MCR (Mission Configurable Rifle) belt-fed upper receiver assembly is engineered for compatibility with standard AR/M4 type uppers and seamlessly integrates with any mil-spec lower receiver without necessitating permanent modifications to the host lower. It maintains backward compatibility with AR-15/M16 models manufactured since 1963. Upon installation, the patented MCR upper receiver system allows for user configuration within seconds, without the need for tools, to accommodate a wide range of mission profiles.

This system is specifically tailored for responsible armed citizens, law enforcement and professional security personnel seeking to enhance their rifles or carbines with MCR performance and capabilities. Key features include gas piston operation, ensuring extreme reliability under adverse conditions, a 16-1/4 inches quick-change barrel system that can be swapped in three seconds and a Mil-STD 1913 co-planar handguard equipped with a rail interface system for mounting optics and modern accessories. The MCR spans the capability spectrum from an optic-ready carbine to a lightweight support rifle, accepting standard box-type AR-15/M16 magazines or M27 linked ammunition at the operator's discretion, thereby offering unparalleled firepower and weapon flexibility.

I'd go 2000 or so, but not this price. They need to pump them out , get some overseas contracts to get the volume up and costs down.

Check out the Lima Six Belt-fed upper. They are asking around that price.

Lima Six's version for $3K – https://limasix.com/product/pre-order-lima-six-belt-fed-upper-receiver/...
CryoStructure's version, $3300 – https://www.cryostructure.com/product/556-belt-fed-upper-receiver/...
CS even says they're working on a 7.62 version – https://www.cryostructure.com/product/cryostructure-ar-10-7-62mm-belt-fed-upper-receiver/...

but those are all vaporware at this point

Just wondering, why does a belt fed upper for an AR cost so much?

Moreover to what xmos stated, I believe these are closed bolt vs most belt feds being open bolt. Open bolt being easier to implement however can be a legal issue depending on the design (many open bolt designs are not easily accessible due to the legal hurdles). They probably had to (figuratively) reinvent the wheel to get this running reliably.

Maybe they are more complicated mechanically and they are not common so don’t benefit from economy of scale in manufacturing.
