The Special Forces Shovel is modeled after the original Soviet Spetznaz shovel. The Spetznaz soldiers made up the most elite unit in the Soviet Army. The U.S. equivalent would be our Green Berets. The shovel head and socket are forged from medium carbon steel, then heat treated for maximum strength. The edges come sharpened to a utility/axe edge that can easily be improved to razor sharpness.

Does not now come with cover, Have to buy separate and trying to charge $30 for the cover! I canceled my order after finding out.

In for 2. I'll order the sheaths later when I find out which one is best. Either way good for camping or conserving ammo on walkers ;)

Even figuring in the cost of a sheath these are pretty affordable for a strong backpacking/camp/trunk shovel that can also serve the same purpose as a machete or lightweight axe to split kindling, trim heavy brush or defend one's self in a pinch. It's bigger than one of the compact folding entrenchment tools but the strength of the design and wider range of functions the tool can serve make it a good trade-off. As a trunk shovel in the snowy midwest this has significant advantage over the crappy plastic snow shovels that tend to end up in people's trunks and shatter or break in the cold (particularly with heavy, slushy snow or ice).

Round the sharp edge off and it's perfectly suitable as a garden shovel for the little helpers as well. The head is detachable so if you are so inclined you could install a longer handle for more leverage/purchase.

I own this, paid a little more that what is being offered here - but as the comments on the bottom of that page say, you need to own the sheath for this shovel that it is usually sold with if you want to take it anywhere.

Oh my aching back; I need one which is 5 ft longer, and the head about 6 more inches on each side... then you're talking a ditch digging implement! Home Depot here I come!

Well if the Special Forces uses them then I gotta get one before they ban them lol. "Great for digging latrines" lmao!

I saw one of these at the Kittery Trading Post here in Maine. I was told that Spetsnaz uses them! (Bro... do you even operate?!?!) I had to find it online and post it. You can't see from the pictures well, but all edges of the shovel are razor sharp. No one will see it coming!!!
