Agree with you woo, these are cool collectable rifles but they truly are HEAVY rifles. Your not packing this rifle around with you like on "could" do with an AR-10 built for a lighter weight. These just "feel" so much heavier and bulkier than they actually even are. I think it's the overall design. But as you said there are those seeking them for the collectible military value. The price is right and I've had plenty of good buys over the years from PSA..
Update : I got the call from my FFL today that my rifle was ready for pickup. I was excited to see it, but as soon as I inspected it, I noticed some serious quality issues. The cocking tube was heavily pitted, which the parkerized finish did a good job of masking, but it was still very noticeable. On top of that, the cocking mechanism was rough and sticky.
I knew going into this that the rifle was made from surplus parts and expected some cosmetic flaws, but these issues were more than just cosmetic. I decided to decline the transfer and not complete the 4473 transfer form.
This will cost me a $40 restocking fee plus the $20 original shipping, for a total loss of $60. While that's disappointing, it's a small price to pay compared to the $200 I've lost on a return for the surplus AK I got from Classic. Buying surplus is always a roll of the dice, and unfortunately, this time I ended up with a lemon. I hope others have better luck with their rifles.
Sorry to hear, yes buying surplus is always a gamble but I also think that sellers need to be better about their description and valuation of the surplus guns they sell. Classic is terrible about this! I'd never buy another surplus gun from Classic. Hope you find a better deal on a better gun next time.
The prices on these just doesn't fucking move.
Mazz, what do you exactly mean ? How much cheaper do you want this to get ?
I'm just saying this is what I paid for mine 5 years ago.
Well, given the ridiculous inflation over the last five years, then I would say the price has gotten cheaper. Technically.
Isn't that like saying, 'yeah my arm was amputated....but at least I lost 10 pounds' ;)
But regarding GorillaP's comments; I do not think these are exactly the same thing as the C308 or even the PTR91 of yore. I indeed bought one of the C308 for $459 (if memory serves) and the PTR's were normally priced around this mark or higher.
I believe all of the above are made from a mix of surplus and new parts, but from difference sources, varying amounts of surplus (some authentic, some "clones," some 3rd party knockoffs) vs new parts....therefore are not directly comparable. The PTR91 is probably the closest to an actual G3 though.
If I understand correctly, the CA-3 is functionally a hybrid of the PTR91 and the C308.
Nor based on the timeline (as Ben alluded to) is pricing really comparable, especially considering modern inflation and the ridiculous tariffs.
These were not available 5 years ago. What firearm are you referring to?
Are you referring to the crappy C308 Cetme's? If so, those were built in-house by Century.
These are being built by PTR on improved receivers.
Aside from you talking about different firearm, there is such a thing called inflation. 600.00 in 2020 is equal to 751.36 today based on CPI inflation numbers.
Please do better.
I was at the post office yesterday and it now costs $11.5 for small priority package, exactly double compared to five years ago ... I'm grateful that gun prices have been relatively steady so they are basically getting cheaper !

As cool as this rifle style is, as a 5'9" guy this was a freaking beast to wield compared to other .308 semi autos. I personally would not consider a G3-ish rifle to be a decent battle rifle in 2025...assuming that is your concern.
Also, mags used to be absurdly cheap, I think I bought 20 for less than $30 and they were still wrapped in old surplus paper and covered in factory oil. Now you are lucky to get 1 "blem" for $20 shipped.
Regardless, still a cool collector's item if you don't care that it wasn't made by H&K.
