Bought this deal a week ago. When I fire it, it feels like I'm getting bead-blasted in the face every other shot. Not sure if it's unburnt powder or pieces of casing- but it stings. Sellier & Bellot .380 ammo used. Does anyone recommend a fix for this? Couldn't find much online

To add- It was in decent shape when received-not excellent condition. There were major dings on the magazine and frame, with non-matching replacement parts such as safety switch. It works and is fun to shoot (besides sand-blasting my face)

Replace the recoil spring, maybe a fresh spring will slow the breech opening up on you

Lots of info from the web:
The Beretta Model 84 uses a straight blowback action, which means the breech does not lock when fired; the slide is held shut only by the mass of the slide and the recoil spring. This design choice is common in .380 ACP pistols.
Straight Blowback Design: Because the action starts to open very quickly after the primer ignites, hot gases and unburnt powder residue can escape backward through the ejection port more easily than in a locked-breech design. This is a normal, though sometimes annoying, characteristic for this type of firearm, sometimes referred to as "face blast" or "face farts".
Ammunition Type: The amount of unburnt powder is highly dependent on the propellant used in the ammunition. Some powders burn slower or require higher pressure to achieve a complete burn within the short barrel of a handgun.
Low Pressure/Slow Powder: Low-pressure loads or ammunition using a powder that is too slow for the barrel length will often leave behind more unburnt flakes.
Recoil Spring: A worn or too-light recoil spring can allow the slide to cycle even faster, exacerbating the issue of gas and debris blowing back towards the shooter's face.
Recommended Actions
Prioritize Safety: Inspect Headspace. The most critical step is to have a qualified gunsmith verify the headspace with proper gauges (go/no-go) to rule out any immediate safety hazards.
Wear Eye Protection. Always wear proper eye protection when shooting to protect yourself from any ejected debris.
Experiment with Ammunition. Try different brands and types of .380 ACP ammunition, particularly those known to use faster-burning powders or that are designed for shorter barrels, to see if the condition improves.
Consider a Heavier Recoil Spring. You may try installing a heavier-weight recoil spring (if available from manufacturers like Wolff Gunsprings) to delay the blowback slightly, which can reduce the amount of gas and powder that escapes towards the shooter.
Consult a Gunsmith. If the problem persists after trying different ammunition, or if you have any doubts about the firearm's safety, a professional gunsmith can offer expert diagnosis and potential solutions.

So I try to help a guy "Daniel21" after you asked a question and had concerns about your pistol and you go and down vote me for it? That takes a real "special" person. See if I waste my time again trying to help you!

I got this. It looks like it rode in a holster for years and belonged to a desk jockey. I thought it was going to come all beat up and trashed (like AIM-surplus sends used guns). Damn thing looks brand new—not a scratch. Great deal for a classic .380 /9mm short.

I can concur this. Some reviewers said the guns they recieved were in less than PSA's promised "Excellent condition" but man, the one I got was in great shape. Some minor holster wear and a few areas where it looks like it got spot refinished, but it looks good regardless and shoots great.
