Got some from Cabelas last month..

The quality control doesn't seem to be up to par on this brand.

Out of 100 rounds, 2 were dented up pretty bad.

Even Cabela's has been selling this for less on and off the past couple of months.

Midway was selling 500 round cases for $225ish after shipping in February and then again for $260ish just a month ago.

CCI, Speer, Federal....its all under the ATK banner anyways. Whoever makes it makes it. If they're farming out the work to Israel (its not like they have zero experience sending 556 downrange in can't fail circumstances) or Brazil, I am sure ATK ensures that the actual product maker lives up to ATK's standards.

The last several boxes of this I bought said "Made in Israel" on the box. Maybe that is why *I* think it might be made in Israel. Federal brass, shoots about like any other M193.

Maybe they buy it all over the place and repackage.

According to what Grumpy-today posted thats what it appears. He stated on the boxes he has it says made in Israel.
I have a couple thousand rounds (total) of 9mm and .223 together and there marked made in USA Lewiston, ID 83501 USA (which is speer).
I have also read before that in the past people have gotten Independence ammo with CCI stamped on the brass (CCI is also in ID).
It s possible he has older stock because I believe the older ammo was imported from a couple sources (mainly Brazil) but from what I understand the current supply is all made in USA from Lewiston.
But who knows. It shoots good, Is becoming more readily available (for the most part) and as long as you don't overpay is priced about the same as Aguilla but doesnt smell as "funky" as Aguilla when fired

$12 a box is a rip off and about double what you should be paying for it.

Seen a lot of this brand at my local Cabela's . Since I didn't recognize the brand and no one at the store could answer on the quality and/or reliability of the ammo I decided to pass on it.. Can anyone please give an insight on quality and reliability on these?

Thanks..

Bought a 500 pack of this at our local Police/ Public safety shop. Box cost me $230 before tax. Was fine for pulling the trigger at the range. Nothing to get excited about. But I wouldn't pay 12/box either. But it's not bad when it's less than $10. Would rather see this in the range it belongs... about 6.99 - 7.99.

Just my $.02

Israeli made I believe. Good quality but IMO not 60 cents a round good.

Where in the world did you come up with made in Israel? Ive never heard anything about it being from Israel. I believe orginally it was believed to be Magtech, made in Brazil and imported by ATK but the latest would suggest that it is Speer. The address on the Independence box is Lewiston, ID 83501 USA (same as Speer).

Taz is right, not sure where I got Israeli made from, I blame "bad intelligence." Found this online so it MUST be true...

"Independence ammo is an "economy" line of ammo. When it was first introduced, around 2000, the ammo in various calibers was being made by CBC of Brazil. It can be identified by a flat-base "U" or "V" impression on the primer cup (typical of CBC ammo).

Later several different companies supplied cases for the ammo. The identification for Independence ammo is " *I* " on the headstamp. Most recently the Independence brand boxes have been filled with Blazer Brass ammo (stamped "BLAZER"). Makes sense because the manufacturer of Independence ammo is Ammunition Accessories Inc., of Lewiston, ID. Guess where Speer and CCI ammo comes from? Yep. Lewiston, ID."

Google "israeli made ammo" and see what pops up, looks like I'm not the only one that bit on that one.

I believe the conclusion is that it is basically Speer ammo.
I have used the Independence 9mm and .223 ammo. I picked up the 9mm from PSA a while back for around $9. a box of 50 shipped and have just in the past couple months been buying there .223 ammo from Walmart for around $6 a box. I have found nothing wrong with either and have not had any issues in about 2000 rds of 9mm through more than 10 pistols and a 9mm AR and about 600 - 700 rds of .223 through 2 different AR's and an AUG.

Hold off and keep checking your local Walmart stores and dont overpay.

I wish I would have picked up a few more cases of Independence 9mm when it was on sale.

Hold of on paying ridiculous prices for .223. Be patient and check your local Walmarts regularly.
The 3 stores near me have been getting Independence, American Eagle and Brass Max .223 regularly and are about the same price they've been for the past couple years.

My local Walmart had around 120 boxes delivered and it was $6-$7 as well. Not paying $11.99!
