Have MULTIPLE GONGS, by getting a Ar500 SET and some SHEPHERD HOOKS!
Replacing Chains and hardware cost about what a shepherd hook cost from Lowes or Homedepot! And there easily attainable!
Frame is junk, literally. I was shooting it with everything up to .45-70 but with those big slugs you have to sandbag the frame or it will come part/flip over. I got bored with this and decided to see what .50 bmg would do to ar550 at 100 yards. It lasted 7 shots before being torn in half.
Honestly avoid this. Get those 2x4 rectangle ends that use pipe for legs and just buy the targets. I got a 6 pack from 2" to 12" and I go back and forth shooting them and it's a heck of a lot more fun than this one that, invariably will need a new mounting solution anyway.
I bought one and one of my friends randomly emptied a mag into it and hit the frame, it was almost impossible to take it apart and harder to put it together now, Not the targets fault but just putting it out there lol great set up til that happened
You can build this for half the price.
Just sayin.
I agree. Made mine with 2 X 4 legs plus a piece of 1/2 rebar running horizontal. Easy to disassemble/transport as well.
But, for those who'd rather buy something pre-made, I can see where this unit for 83 shipped could be considered.
.
FWIW, this same unit at Cabela's is currently 'on sale' for 115: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Caldwell-reg-Magnum-Rifle-Gong/1217810.uts?searchPath=%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FcategoryId%3D734095080%26CQ_search%3Dgong...
had mine for a couple of years now and the frame is by far the main downside. be prepared to put some bags on the legs to prevent it falling and stock up on some rustoleum for the holes you'll inadvertently put in your frame. the cabelas rifle gong will be my next target but this has served me well
The shepherd garden hooks like at Lowes Or Homedepot for $7-$9 have done well to hang gongs.
This is a good price though.
I bought this a few years ago. Shooting at 150y w 7.62x54r, 308, 8mm, 7mm, 6.5 the AR550 does very well. Very minimal cratering. Stand is junk, expect to figure another way to hang the steel. Great price if you are looking for a good piece of steel.
Looked at this combination before as I wanted a portable stand for a gong.
Looked online for other stands. (Gongs of all types are easy to come by)
Ended up making my own stand.
The basic concept includes a 5 ft piece of 1/2 rebar running horizontally. Drill a 9/16 hole in one end of (4) 2 X 4 'legs'. Run rebar through hole(s) to end up with a 'saw-horse' type contraption.
Others have used Pipe in lieu of rebar. Either way, the 'parts' are easy to find, not very expensive, easily broke-down/carried/stored.
Also, the 2 x 4 legs can be positioned independently, allowing for use on uneven terrain,,
I've had one of these for several years now.
The frame has taken a beating from less experience rifle shooters, but it still goes together on the off occasion that I use the original frame. I usually hang this on a Grizzly Targets 2x4 frame unit, along with a host of my other steel targets.
I have to say that the target itself is one of my best steel targets, hands down. I've got targets from GT Targets, Grizzly Targets, Shootingtargets7, Scorpius, CTS, and LVSteeltargets. This little target has stood up to years of abuse. Aside from one hole-through (let a friend shoot his 22-250 knowing it was likely to hole it), it has less dents or divots than any of my other various steels targets.
Is the price on this worth it? Eh, you can get targets themselves much cheaper and still be good steel for less. Stands are usually where the initial costs for steel can add it if you want more than one.
Like others have stated the frame is not built like a tank but contrary to what they report isn't flimsy either. Mine has survived 25+ direct hits with 22LR, 5.56, 45mm…and everything in between. Rifle bullets will pass right through and pistol rounds tend to make it through the first layer and park themselves in the hollow center. A .308 might rip through a leg but I doubt you are firing them off the hip quite as often. The spall does mar the frame a little but I just touch it up with.99 cent spray paint from Walmart to keep the holes / spall marks from rusting through. 2 years out in the weather and it is still solid as a rock. After this finally breaks I will probably build something out of 3/4 inch black pipe (think gas lines) so I can replace any part easily.
Frame and mounting on this is junk, but the gong is great quality. I've been smacking mine with up to .308 and its still going strong, no major pitting.
Love mine so far. Works great on everything from 22lr to 556. The only issue is after a few range trips and few thousand rounds fired at it the splatter can damage the frame a little bit. Still holding up strong but eventually will have to rig something on it or get a replacement frame. Overall very good quality for about 100$ IMO
Safado's comment: "optics planet seems to have it for the same price

And they usually offer 10% off if you chat with a sales person.
So the size is 10.5 inches x 9.75 inches x 1 inch. which means the main circle is 9 3/4 in around; then add the little upper part for the chains of another 3/4 in or so.
So, do you spray paint it white every time you go out to the woods... that way you can see your hits from afar ( with spotting scope )? Cool.
optics planet seems to have it for the same price
They're selling at overstock.com via sears for 75 bucks :P
I just placed my order for this had pretty good reviews besides the frame but that's ok with me. I have never had the chance to shoot steel should be a lot of fun and instant feedback is nice.
I bought this when woot.com had them for $79.00 a couple of weeks ago
anyway ive used mine and they work good but they feel loose when you put them together ..
I recommend putting some sand bags or some kind of weights on the legs to keep it stable or just use the spikes it comes with
I put mine at a 100 yards and hit it with 7.62x54 and knocked it over.
ive been watching these for awhile hoping for the price to come down... so I bought one
not only did the price come down....... but thru WOOT everything is only $5.00 for shipping and I could only imagine of much it would cost to ship thru someone else... great price...
cant wait to get out on in the desert
Great price on this with $5 shipping. Works great with 223/308/762x39 (and pistol rounds, of course).
I've been waiting for this one to drop; thanks for posting!
What’s up with this JamesWWIII faggot that just goes around giving everyone a thumbs-down? He must be a dick-sucking libtard.
