The Remington R2Mi takes a very different approach from a traditional sporting rifle. It is a purpose-built extreme long-range platform chambered in .50 BMG, configured around a 30" free-floated Lothar Walther barrel, a left-side bolt with right-side ejection port & a detachable 10rd box magazine. The rifle uses an aluminum upper/lower receiver arrangement with a full-length MIL-STD-1913 rail, a vented fore-end, an AAC Cyclops muzzle brake, a Magpul PRS Gen3 adjustable stock, an ErgoGrip Deluxe tactical grip & a steel bipod. Its layout is clearly intended for ELR shooting, heavy-caliber target work & specialized long-range applications rather than general field use. What makes the R2Mi noteworthy is not just its size, but how deliberately it was configured for control & consistency. Remington presented it as a sub-MOA-capable .50 BMG system, with the left-bolt/right-port arrangement helping the shooter cycle the action while staying in position behind the rifle. The massive brake, substantial overall size, rigid receiver setup & match-oriented barrel all support stability under recoil, while the rifle's AR-style takedown method simplifies maintenance compared with many rifles in this class. As a concept, it sits closer to a dedicated precision anti-materiel or ELR rifle than to a conventional bolt gun & that is the lens through which its performance & design make the most sense.
