The Colt Competition CRX-16 is a tactical and precision-focused AR-15 rifle, designed specifically for competitive shooters. The original CRX-16 model is built around a 16" match-grade barrel made from 4140 Chrome-Moly steel, known for its durability and corrosion resistance. This barrel features a 1:8" twist rate, optimizing it for a broad range of bullet weights. The rifle employs a gas-operated, original direct-impingement system, ensuring reliability and consistent performance. It also includes a Colt Competition "twin-port" muzzle brake that effectively mitigates recoil and muzzle rise, aiding in rapid follow-up shots.
The Gen 2 version of the CRX-16, often referred to as the Colt Competition Marksman CRX-16 Gen 2, enhances several features of its predecessor. It maintains the same caliber specifications—.223 Remington/5.56 NATO—and the same 16" barrel length but introduces a more advanced match target trigger for sharper, more responsive firing. Additionally, Gen 2 models are equipped with a 12" free-floated handguard with M-LOK slots for attachments and an improved 4-position adjustable stock for better shooter comfort and customization. Notably, the Gen 2 models also feature a more refined finish with options for different coatings on the barrel and receiver, providing both aesthetic appeal and additional durability. These updates make the Gen 2 a more versatile and adaptive tool for competitive shooters who demand precision and reliability.
