The next generation of the Bren, the Bren 2 MS, is available in a pistol and carbine version, featuring multiple barrel lengths and chambered in .223 /5.56 and 7.62×39. Unlike the 805 Bren, which was built to Czech military specifications, the Bren 2 is a fresh design focusing on weight reduction, with a streamlined aluminum receiver and a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer lower. This results in a robust yet lighter firearm. The reciprocating charging handle has been replaced with a non-reciprocating one that can be used as a forward assist and swapped from side to side. It also includes an AR-style ambidextrous bolt catch/release system, ambidextrous magazine release, and safety, all familiar to AR users. The .223 models use AR-15 style magazines, while the 7.62 variants use factory magazines for reliable feeding and last-round hold-open. The modular forend allows barrel length and chambering swaps. The pistol version features a rear plate for attaching an AR-style buffer tube for an arm brace or similar device, and for those converting to an SBR, it can accommodate a Carbine buffer tube and stock or be replaced with a factory folding/adjustable stock.
