Canik SFX Rival - Another High Performance Bargain

Updated 47 months ago

Hey, everybody, welcome back to gun.deals. Today on the table we have a Canik SFX Rival. There’s a lot to go over. Let’s get this review started.

Alright folks, so as I say this is the Canik SFX Rival. I’m actually going to change the camera angle immediately, put this down on the table so you guys get a nice close look up of the gun, but also there’s a ton that comes in the box with it so let me change the camera angle around and we’ll be right with you.

Alright, so it does come in this Canik branded hard case right here, let’s open this up. So, you’re gonna notice right of the bat at the back here we’ve got some cleaning rods and things like that. You got the tool that they’ve included so there’s the torque wrench on the end here and that can also be used as kind of a punch. It does have two extra back straps, we’ll go over them in a second, and it comes with this little pistol. This is your Canik, this is it. It’s kind of a micro, you know, just kidding, so actually this actually serve more than the purpose of just being kind of fun. If you push open the base plate the right way at the bottom it does hold some tools and screws and these little pieces here, but we’ll put them aside and go over them in just a second, so it does come with some stuff like that, and then if you use the torque wrench part you can actually put it in the end here and then use this actually as a tool, just a fun little thing they’ve included for you.

Let move that aside. Ok, let’s move this up. Alright, so in this pouch up here, I know, stuff you don’t care about, but let’s go over it anyway, it just got some paperwork and things like that. Have your user manual right here, out the way, and then let’s open into the case right here.

We have a trigger lock right here, so we have the pistol right here, let’s go ahead and pick that up. It does actually come with a holster right of the box which is kind of a nice touch I think and it’s got a little bit of wiggle in there, but still, I mean, just sheer fact that you don’t go a buy one straight away if you don’t want to. Obviously, this is out of the way waistband holster, pretty decent, it does come obviously with your pistol. It does come with 18-round Mec-Gar mags and they are aluminum and then this is your second one right here, it does come with kind if a speed loader right here, wait, there’ more. It comes with this metal base plates, there’s two of them and then it comes with, there’s one, two, three, four, five, these are actually mounts, this is for your optic mounts so you don’t have to go out and buy plates and things like that if, you know, aftermarket ones or whatever these are actually already all included with the package which I think is super nice.

Depending on what red dot you want to run there it should be covered in this five and so very, very cool. The other thing it comes with, I’ve already put on is this flared mag well part right here, this is actually aluminum, it’s very nice indeed, I do like that a lot and that does come with the kit also, again, just installed it because I’ve been using it throughout the review. So, actually let’s start with the mags.

Magazines

I did say that these are 18-round Mac-Gar mags, they do have base plastic plate on here and these are the metal ones. You can see that they are actually, the metal ones are actually wider right here. The reason for that is because if you’re using the ones with the plastic base plate and you’re putting it in with this mag well it sits flush and I did through the review process when I was putting them in the chute, occasionally I didn’t put it all the way in because it felt like it was in. Obviously it’s just hard when it’s flush like this so when you put this base plates on, switch them out, it will sit lower so it’ll be easier to smack those mags for you. So, that’s what I’m saying, if you run this flared mag well you’re gonna want to switch out those base plates along with it.

Let’s take a nice close look here, so as I said this has got some branding right here. It’s mechanic. I really like this flared mag well a lot, there is no reason to miss this little sucker, it’s huge and it is mounted with one screw right here.

Grip

Moving up to the grip you’ve got some really nice texturing on the both sides and obviously in the front right here, very nice texturing indeed and then you have more of a different kind of texture obviously on the back here, more reminiscent of probably like a Glock Gen 4. You’ll also notice you have the little pin, this hole right here, you can use that tool I showed you right at the start to pop that pin out and to switch out whatever back strap that you want. To do that you’re going to have make sure that obviously your flared mag well is off to switch that out, but it’s really nice that you can customize this and get it to whatever grip that you like which is very cool.

Moving up we do have a very extended out mag release right here, let me get that to focus, so you can see this is an extended mag release right here. I did show you two other little parts at the beginning of the video and so these actually come with, again, with the pack so you can actually switch out the mag release so if sticks if it protrudes too far for you if you want it closer to the frame you can switch them out and kind of have whatever you like.

These do come with it and it’s just a Torx screw in here, you just take that out and then you can switch to whatever one you would like so, again, very nice, very customizable and this is actually, well, not ambidextrous but you can switch this to the other side if you are a left-handed shooter and one on the other side.

Groove

Moving up you can see it’s got a really nice groove here for my thumb to sit in and then you do have a double undercut right here and then obviously up here so my thumb does sit very comfortably in that grip. I have medium-sized hands and you can see there’s plenty of room down here so if you have larger hands this will fit you probably very comfortably but even medium-sized hands it does feel good to me.

Trigger

We do have a very nice trigger in here. Let’s go over that right now so with the trigger obviously you have the safety on the blade in the middle there, if you pull on either side the trigger will not go off. Let’s just show you the trigger depress to safety, got a little bit of take up and then I feel like I’m at the wall, very nice clean crisp break. I’ll show you the reset, very nice reset, very tactile and audible. Very, very nice trigger, I mean this, out of the box, it’s one of the best striker-fire triggers on the market, very nice trigger indeed.

Moving along we do have a 1913 pic rail right here and obviously attach whatever you need so these are your take down levers, there’s one on this side and one on this side, we’ll go over that in just a second, you do have your slide catch slide release and it is ambidextrous obviously on both sides.

Slides

Let’s move up to the slides, you have some very aggressive serrations on the front and back, definitely very easy to grip this and rack it and then you’ll notice we do have some cutouts on the top and sights here I think it was just designed to kind of lighten this slide up a little bit and then if you come down to the front here, we turn this, you’ll see how it goes thick and then it thins down again, I think they were just possibly just trying to lighten the slide up a little bit, and then moving back you have your rear sight here.

canik-sfx-slides

As I said, this is your optics cut also we held them with two screws so if you take this out you can obviously attach whatever optic you want. We’re gonna loose obviously you’re gonna loose this whole rear sight. Then, obviously you’ll see we’ve got some windage and elevation adjustment so you can obviously adjust that as needed.

Another cool factor, I think about this gun, is you have the indicator back here that the gun I cocked and obviously if you pull the trigger that disappears and cocked again. Kind of a cool feature, I do like that.

Sights

Let’s go over the sights, you have some fiber optic sight at the front here, this red one. It’s pretty nice to pick up, I don’t know how well it’s picking up on camera, and then you have these rear serrated blacked-out sights and it does come with a little bag with two other fiber optic colors in there so if you want to change this out to a different color you can do that, but the sights are pretty decent, I found them using in the range and it’s pretty dull in there but I was able to pick them up really well without any problems.

canik-sfx-sights

To take this firearm down you’re going to see that we have a notch in the top of the slide so you’re just gonna pull that back slightly so it’s about in the middle right there and then pull down on both sides and then just push your slide forward and that comes off.

We’ll show you the inside here, but it pretty much looks like every other polymer lower I think, it looks all pretty standard in there. That is obviously your lower. And then we move up and we have the slide and then you have your guide rod and spring. The guide rod and spring is all metal which some of you, I sure, will like that feature and then we’ll take out the barrel. The barrel is actually 5 inches long, take that out, and then you can see here you’ve got kind of serrations right here, but I think that’s just purely cosmetic, but you’ll notice also with the barrel, it’s actually fluted, it’s a fluted barrel, 5-inch fluted barrel, so there is your barrel, very nice indeed and then here is your slide. The fit and finish on this Canik is excellent, very nice craftsmanship indeed. Alright, and then just put it back together.

When you go to put your slide back on top you’re gonna actually put that, see where this little notch is right there, you’ll see a little piece of metal there in the notch, just put that in like so and then just pull back and you’re back in place.

Shooting

Let’s go over shooting it, shooting was very, very nice indeed. I’m actually gonna roll in some footage just now. That was literally the first mag that I shot out of this gun, right of the box it was pinpoint accurate, for me it was about 10 yards and, you know, I was, you know, shots were about that not too bad I think so actually it was 100% there for me, very controllable, easy to get those follow-up shots, yeah, absolute pleasure to shoot.

canik-sfx-shooting

There is a lot to really, really like about this gun, which we’ve gone over obviously. The optics cut, awesome trigger right out of the box, very nice indeed, you know, you’ve got an aluminum mag well right here, you’ve got 18-round mags, awesome trigger, you’ve got an awesome slide with all of these cutouts, I mean there is just a ton to like about this firearm.

canik-sfx

You would think with how much it offers and what comes in the box that this would have a hefty price tag, it really doesn’t.

So, you’re gonna be looking paying at the time of posting this video, you’re gonna be looking at paying approximately 650 to 700 dollars for an out of the box ready competition gun that really doesn’t need anything done to it, very impressive. I reviewed a few Caniks and they’ve all been absolutely excellent, 100% reliable and the pricing is just phenomenal, I mean, yeah, I don’t think there is a nicer competition gun even anywhere near close to the price of this gun. So, very nice gun indeed, highly recommended, very, very good gun.
