non-sense! lol

It was manufacturers as much as it was stores too. I know shops that had back rooms FULL of stuff watching prices skyrocket. No one was prepared for the surge. Prior to Obama most never had more than a few hundred rounds of ammo across all their calibers, on the way to or from the range you replaced what you shot. Now even non-enthusiasts are stockpiling 1000+ rounds in every caliber they have. LEO/MIL was not blind to this so they started ordering much longer supplies of ammo than previously. That said manufacturers hit stores too, stores made huge orders when demand was sky high, now they are sitting on tons of product with low demand.

My guess is the ammo companies never invested in tons of people/machinery because they always figured the demand would slow down, it just didn’t. The US lost its last lead smelting factory and if I had to guess I'd image .22 ammo is their least profitable, so when demand went sky high they focused on what was most profitable.

That era has forever changed how gun owners purchase ammo, mags, etc., because now most have thousands of rounds of ammo, not hundreds. Now that demand is falling off you are seeing ammo and gun companies struggle compared to previous years. There have been tons of super low prices, rebates, free product, etc. and some of the lowest prices I've ever seen this year. Take this Remington ammo, $210 for 3, you can get $15 off if you go through retailmenot, another 5% off credit card cash back, and $90 back in rebates. That's 21 boxes of 9mm for ~$95 or $4.53 a box, that’s unheard of for decades. Even if you just paid the $210 it's $5.70 a box. Other recent rebates have gotten in the $7-7.50 a box, I'm not sure I ever remember 9mm at $7 a box in stores even in the 80’s.

My guess is this won’t last, the gun companies are going to cut labor, and reduce manufacturing to bring prices back up. I’d bet next year we see prices stabilize more. Hopefully I’m wrong because it’s been a very good year for great ammo/gun prices.

Considering that Cerberus Capital has been unable to sell Remington I doubt that they would do anything to create more disappointment and ill-will toward Remington Arms within the gun community. That wouldn't make any sense because it would only make their bad position even worse. Cerberus wants to make money not lose it. A very small short-term gain from screwing people who bought ammo with a MiR wouldn't make them more profitable--it would have the opposite effect.

"Shipping Restriction: Currently we are not able to ship this product to the follow state(s): DC, HI, IL, MA, NY, AE, AA, AP, AK, CA & CT"

I picked up 3x 3 buckets--1 myself, 1 through my dad and 1 through a good friend. Here's to $90 off with MiR and $15 off with retailmenot (per 3 buckets) for a cost of 10 cents/round!

Liberal states/districts suffer high-priced ammo and the rest of the country wins!

Is this in store too?

Been trying since yesterday, I keep getting "! The action not allowed either because of a changed state of the object or other reasons, please try to refresh your screen." Anyone with this issue had any luck?

Yep, DO NOT keep trying, call them. What happens is somehow you got put into Academy's internal fraud lockout, and the more you try the longer you get locked out. There's a couple more posts about it half way down.

Basically what people have had to do is make a new account with a new email, and use a card that won't get rejected. Academy must be on a lot of cards fraud lists because I had both of mine dinged there when trying to make a purchase.

I finally did get make a new account and get one to order through to completion on Wednesday, but they cancelled that order this morning.

Honestly, if you get caught in this loop IMO it's not worth the savings. I probably spent 4-5 hours trying to sort it out, and the order I did make was cancelled 2 days later. The message people get is horrible, because the way it reads it encourages people to reload the page and try again, which just means you're going to be locked out that much longer.

Thanks. This was strange because I did not even sign up for it, I was checking out as a guest

It's probably tied to the name, email, phone number, card number etc. then that you enter for checkout if you don't have and/or didn't sign up for an account. You could try making an account and checking out again. If you keep trying with the failed message though you just dig yourself a bigger hole. The people I talked to on the phone and by chat could not fix the lock out, and in fact they could not even place the order for me on the phone.

Just got my limit of three for the rebate dropped off by FedEx today I put in my order only 3 days ago. To answer the question about mailing in the UPC for the rebate of course it's the plastic bucket but there's a paper UPC over the existing UPC on the bucket so as long as you're really careful removing it you shouldn't have to puncture a hole in the bucket they come in to get your rebate.
I have to give this deal a A+ now I just have to see how long it takes to get the rebate back from Remington.

OOS right now but it bounces back and forth. After a ton of hassle with their ordering system I got an order placed on Wednesday for 3. However, I just received a cancellation notice this morning. It will be interesting to see how many people that ordered Wed-Thurs get the same.

This happens all the time with Academy, their web store is horrible dealing with anything in high demand. I've had problems with previous ammo/rebate orders that were popular. Website shows it's in stock, but you can't add it to your cart. Website shows it's in stock, you can add it to your cart, but you can't check out. Website shows it's in stock, you add it to your cart, check out, get an order confirmation, but then have your order cancelled 3 days later. Honestly at this point I wish I'd have just paid the $15 more to order them at Natches.

Honestly after missing the cash back at retailmenot I hope they cancel my order and then it comes back in stock and then I order and they fulfill it the 2nd time.. shit is that asking too much?

If you aren't lazy mail in rebates aren't so bad

1 vote

This one is tolerable. The ones where you have to cut out 50 UPCs from a case of 5.56 packaged in 20 round boxes for your rebate... Well, those suck.

Only pistol rounds r eligible for rebate. They put a sticker upc barcode on bucket so you don't have to cut hole in bucket. Rural king and other places have them also but for around 10$ more. I reload and it was cheaper to buy these for the brass to reload after I shoot it all up rather then buying it.

when OBOZOS commy ammo scare was going on and places like LuckyGunner/Cheaper Than Dirt/Midway/Target and a lot of other stores were gouging the chitt out of consumers on rimfire ammo Academy Sports was selling rimfire at a reasonable rate but it was hard to get any there because S*** B@gs were cleaning it all up and reselling it at RIP OFF prices. **IN MY OPINION** - Give me a thumbs up or down if you agree or disagree I would like your opinion.

Just cause your were scared doesn't mean the fear was rational.

If the *scared* comment was towards me there was no fear here. Bought cases shipped for $150.00 before OBOZO get elected in the nut house. sitting in safe till this day. Hope you enjoyed paying $90-$140 a brick - 8-)

Well if you are still whining about it then I think the shoe still fits. Nice down vote...bet you think that matters in life? BTW, not telling you how to run your finances but you really should not be banging your chest about money sitting in a safe tied up in unused items for a decade. Only a "bozo" would do that.

P.S. The free market allows people to set their own prices based on supply vs demand, buy and resell, etc. Your "gouging" complaint sounds pretty darn "commy" to me. When is your next occupy wall street rally, snowflake?
